%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EApril%209,%202012%20%C2%B7%20by%20Y.V.%20%C2%B7%20in%20baking%20%C2%B7%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Eits%20been%20ages%20since%20i%20last%20baked%20anything%20and%20i%20have%20been%20trying%20to%20get%20back%20my%20touch.%20its%20not%20been%20easy%20%E2%80%93%20for%20one,%20i%E2%80%99m%20now%20living%20in%20Chennai%20(India),%20where%20finding%20good%20quality%20baking%20products%20is%20proving%20to%20be%20a%20challenge.%20i%20miss%20the%20days%20in%20Singapore%20when%20the%20NTUC/Cold%20Storage%20was%20just%20a%20bus%20ride%20away,%20and%20i%20could%20choose%20from%20aisles%20devoted%20to%20baking%20goods.%20the%20other%20issue%20is%20that%20after%20a%20long%20break,%20it%20is%20easy%20to%20get%20put%20off%20by%20failures.%20just%20the%20other%20day,%20i%20tried%20making%20a%20carrot%20cake,%20but%20it%20didn%E2%80%99t%20turn%20out%20well%20%E2%80%93%20it%20looked%20fantastic,%20but%20didn%E2%80%99t%20taste%20as%20good%20:(%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Ebut%20i%20told%20myself%20that%20only%20meant%20that%20i%20got%20to%20keep%20trying%20till%20i%20get%20it%20right!%20:)%20until%20i%20sort%20out%20the%20carrot%20cake%20recipe,%20i%20decided%20to%20try%20my%20hand%20at%20something%20i%20have%20been%20meaning%20to%20do%20for%20ages%20%E2%80%93%20marble%20cake.%20moist,%20dense%20and%20slightly%20sweet,%20this%20cake%20is%20one%20of%20my%20favourites,%20and%20i%20love%20it%20to%20pair%20it%20with%20a%20cup%20of%20coffee%20or%20tea.%20and%20it%20doesn%E2%80%99t%20take%20a%20lot%20of%20effort%20to%20make%20one.%20i%20came%20across%20a%20couple%20of%20recipes%20for%20marble%20cake%20online,%20and%20since%20i%20had%20most%20of%20the%20ingredients%20for%20the%20eggless%20version,%20i%20decided%20to%20give%20it%20a%20try.%20this%20recipe%20is%20from%20The%20Chef%20And%20Her%20Kitchen%20%E2%80%93%20and%20i%20must%20say%20it%20is%20a%20winner!%20:)%20i%20have%20listed%20the%20recipe%20and%20some%20notes%20below.%20get%20down%20to%20making%20some%20right%20away!%20:)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIngredients:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMaking%20The%20Marble%20Cake:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPreheat%20your%20oven%20to%20170.deg.C.%20Grease%20and%20flour%20a%207-inch%20round/square/loaf%20or%20bundt%20tin.%20Sift%20together%20the%20flour,%20milk%20powder,%20baking%20powder%20and%20baking%20soda%20two%20or%20three%20times.%20Mix%20the%20cocoa%20powder%20with%20hot%20water%20into%20a%20smooth%20paste%20and%20keep%20aside.%20Cream%20the%20butter%20and%20sugar%20until%20it%20is%20light%20and%20fluffy%20%E2%80%93%20if%20you%20are%20using%20granulated%20sugar,%20this%20will%20take%20a%20while,%20but%20you%20have%20to%20cream%20the%20mixture%20really%20well.%20Add%201%20tsp%20of%20vanilla%20essence%20and%20mix%20well.%20Add%20half%20the%20flour%20mix%20and%20half%20the%20milk%20to%20the%20mixture%20and%20beat%20well.%20Add%20the%20remaining%20milk%20(if%20you%E2%80%99re%20using%20condensed%20milk%20instead%20of%20milk%20powder,%20add%20that%20in%20as%20well)%20and%20beat.%20Lastly,%20add%20the%20remaining%20flour%20and%20beat%20until%20you%20get%20a%20thick,%20smooth%20batter.%20Separate%20one-third%20of%20the%20batter,%20add%20the%20cocoa%20paste%20to%20it%20and%20mix%20well.%20Add%201%20tsp%20of%20vanilla%20essence%20to%20the%20white%20batter%20and%20mix%20well.%20Take%20the%20prepared%20tin%20and%20drop%20in%20spoonfuls%20of%20the%20two%20batters.%20You%20could%20do%20it%20in%20layers%20%E2%80%93%20white%20first%20and%20then%20brown,%20or%20just%20drop%20them%20around%20randomly.%20Use%20a%20knife%20or%20any%20sharp,%20pointy%20object%20and%20swirl%20the%20batter%20to%20create%20the%20marbled%20effect.%20(I%20overdid%20the%20swirling%20a%20bit,%20so%20the%20marble%20effect%20is%20not%20as%20good!)%20Bake%20for%2040%20minutes,%20or%20until%20a%20toothpick/skewer%20inserted%20comes%20out%20clean.%20Take%20out%20and%20cool%20in%20the%20pan%20for%2010%20minutes,%20and%20then%20turn%20the%20cake%20out%20on%20a%20cooling%20rack.%20Cool%20completely%20%E2%80%93%20this%20is%20very%20important.%20While%20you%20may%20be%20tempted%20to%20steal%20a%20tiny%20slice,%20remember%20that%20dense%20cakes%20like%20these%20take%20a%20long%20time%20to%20cool.%20Slicing%20it%20when%20it%E2%80%99s%20still%20warm%20could%20cause%20your%20cake%20to%20break%20or%20crumble.%20When%20the%20cake%20is%20completely%20cool,%20slice%20and%20indulge!%20:)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELike%20Loading...%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ERelated%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
