%20on%20your%20real%20food%20philosophy.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWe%E2%80%99ve%20talked%20about%20donating%20food%20before%20and%20how%20tricky%20it%20is%20to%20find%20non-perishable%20real%20food%20that%20folks%20would%20actually%20know%20what%20to%20do%20with.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFor%20this%20week,%20I%20want%20to%20encourage%20you%20to%20think%20both%20about%20donating%20food%20to%20the%20poor%20and%20also%20those%20opportunities%20you%20get%20to%20share%20food%20with%20friends%20in%20need%20%E2%80%93%20meals%20for%20the%20sick%20through%20your%20church,%20meals%20for%20friends%20who%20have%20recently%20had%20babies,%20or%20just%20hosting%20other%20moms%20in%20the%20neighborhood%20at%20your%20house%20for%20fellowship%20%E2%80%93%20and%20how%20you%20can%20integrate%20real%20food%20in%20those%20situations%20without%20offending%20(or%20starving)%20those%20you%E2%80%99re%20trying%20to%20help.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ENot%20that%20I%E2%80%99m%20assuming%20your%20cooking%20is%20bad!%20I%E2%80%99m%20just%20saying%20that%20for%20people%20who%20are%20used%20to%20the%20taste%20of%20very%20processed%20foods,%20sometimes%20the%20meals%20we%20real%20foodies%20adore%20are%20unpalatable%20to%20them,%20and%20there%20is%20little%20worse%20than%20trying%20to%20help%20someone%20by%20giving%20them%20a%20gift%20that%20hits%20the%20trash.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%E2%80%99m%20excited%20to%20share%20some%20thoughts%20from%20a%20reader%20on%20this%20subject%20tomorrow%20in%20a%20post%20that%20is%20both%20touching%20and%20thought-provoking%20and%20will%20challenge%20and%20conflict%20you.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESince%20my%20guest%20is%20going%20to%20do%20such%20a%20wonderful%20job%20of%20unpacking%20the%20art%20of%20sharing%20food,%20I%E2%80%99m%20going%20to%20explore%20a%20topic%20that%E2%80%99s%20been%20on%20my%20post%20list%20for%20years,%20literally.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EEver%20since%20I%20saw%20Food,%20Inc.%20(found%20on%20Amazon)%20for%20the%20first%20time,%20I%20keep%20thinking%20about%20the%20family%20who%20felt%20they%20had%20to%20eat%20at%20McDonald%E2%80%99s.%20Truly,%20every%20couple%20months,%20something%20makes%20me%20think%20of%20this%20situation,%20and%20I%20try%20to%20solve%20it%20for%20them.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20family%20are%20either%20migrant%20or%20farm%20workers,%20and%20their%20small%20abode%20has%20nowhere%20to%20prepare%20or%20store%20food,%20so%20they%20feel%20forced%20to%20eat%20out.%20They%20stop%20at%20McDonald%E2%80%99s%20and%20order%20from%20the%20dollar%20menu,%20I%20believe,%20spending%20$7%20on%20four%20people%20for%20a%20meal.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThat%20scene%20has%20always%20killed%20me%20because%20I%20just%20can%E2%80%99t%20believe%20that%20fast%20food%20can%20ever%20be%20the%20most%20economical%20option,%20even%20though%20I%20realize%20it%20is%20truly%20truly%20cheap%20food%20and%20it%20would%20probably%20be%20impossible%20to%20buy%20the%20same%20raw%20ingredients%20to%20make%20the%20equivalent%20meal%20for%20the%20same%20low%20price.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20wander%20through%20the%20grocery%20store%20and%20think,%20%22Could%20I%20feed%20a%20family%20a%20satisfying%20meal%20for%20$7,%20all%20nourishing%20foods,%20no%20leftovers%20that%20have%20to%20be%20refrigerated%20and%20no%20cooking%20necessary?%22%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhether%20I%E2%80%99m%20right%20or%20just%20deluding%20myself,%20I%20always%20think%20I%20could.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhat%20do%20you%20think%20about%20these%20possibilities?%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBread%20+%20natural%20peanut%20butter%20+%204%20bananas%20+%20bag%20of%20baby%20carrots%20(would%20have%20some%20bread%20and%20PB%20left%20over%20for%20another%20day%20and%20could%20stock%20up%20on%20something%20that%20day)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECan%20of%20beans%20+%20jar%20of%20salsa%20+%20cabbage%20to%20wrap%20(might%20be%20able%20to%20save%20half%20a%20cabbage%20at%20room%20temp%20for%20the%20very%20next%20day,%20well%20wrapped?)%20+%208%20oz.%20cheese%20+%20a%20bit%20of%20produce%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E1-2%20cans%20tuna%20fish%20+%20bread%20+%208%20oz.%20cheese%20+%20bag%20of%20baby%20carrots%20+%20maybe%20even%20some%20fruit%20or%20applesauce%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E$5%20rotisserie%20chicken%20(just%20eat%20all%20of%20it!)%20+%20cabbage%20to%20wrap%20it%20in%20+%20a%20piece%20of%20fruit%20(apple?)%20to%20split,%20maybe%20with%20some%20mustard%20packets%20from%20the%20deli%20counter%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhenever%20I%20could%20save%2050%20cents%20or%20a%20dollar,%20I%20would,%20and%20I%E2%80%99d%20try%20to%20buy%20a%20pound%20of%20butter%20(can%20keep%20at%20room%20temp%20for%20a%20while!)%20for%20the%20bread,%20maybe%20a%20little%20knife%20to%20cut%20things%20up,%20mustard%20to%20dress%20up%20sandwiches%20or%20some%20nuts%20or%20sale%20items%20something%20that%20could%20supplement%20other%20meals%20with%20nutrient%20and%20calorie%20dense%20foods%20in%20small%20quantities.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIf%20you%20only%20had%20$7/meal%20and%20had%20to%20buy%20on%20demand,%20checking%20the%20sales%20and%20saving%20a%20dollar%20on%20an%20item%20(or%20even%2050%20cents)%20suddenly%20makes%20a%20huge%20difference.%20I%E
