Have you heard of “Suman sa Ibus” or “sticky rice in buri leaves’? Some people called it as rice cake. It’s made from glutinous rice cooked in coconut milk, and often steamed in banana leaves. It is served and wrapped in buli or buri palm (Corypha) leaves and usually eaten sprinkled with sugar. Here in the Philippines, Suman is a major part of Filipino foods and delicacies. It is commonly being shared or given as a gift.

  1. Sticky rice Cooking Instructions:
  2. 1). Soak glutinous rice in water for an hour or until grains are swollen. Drain.
  3. 2). Add salt and coconut milk. Mix well.
  4. 3). Prepare ibus/ buri leaves then fill with rice mixture. Seal tubes and tie with strips of the ibus/ buri.
  5. 4). Arrange the glutinous rice in a big saucepan and cover with water. Cover the pot and boil for 2 hours or until cooked.
  6. 5). Serve with sugar or ripe mango with coffee of course. YUM!
