%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELast%20night%20it%20was%20raining%20again,%20and%20neither%20of%20us%20really%20felt%20like%20a%20big%20meal.%20I%20was%20craving%20bread,%20which%20we've%20been%20trying%20to%20avoid%20lately,%20so%20I%20gave%20in%20and%20threw%20together%20a%20wholegrain%20maple-oat%20quickbread.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20love%20our%20porch.%20It%20has%20a%20clear%20roof%20on%20it,%20so%20we%20can%20sit%20on%20our%20porch%20and%20stay%20dry%20while%20we%20watch%20the%20rain.%20Our%20porch%20is%20screened%20from%20the%20street%20by%20a%20dense%20thicket%20of%20red%20roses,%20so%20when%20we%20sit%20out%20there%20in%20the%20evening,%20it's%20like%20being%20wrapped%20up%20in%20roses%20and%20rain,%20with%20the%20fresh%20floral%20scent%20and%20heavy%20music%20from%20the%20roof%20all%20around%20us.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThere's%20also%20a%20table%20and%20some%20chairs%20out%20there,%20so%20we%20had%20our%20supper%20on%20the%20porch%20last%20night.%20We%20had%20the%20wholegrain%20bread%20with%20sliced%20radishes,%20pickled%20garlic,%20asiago%20cheese,%20and%20smoked%20bleu%20cheese.%20And%20of%20course,%20a%20nice%20little%20shiraz.%20The%20bread%20was%20still%20hot%20from%20the%20oven%20and%20really%20brought%20out%20the%20flavors%20in%20the%20cheeses...%20it%20was%20a%20good%20meal%20to%20linger%20over.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20bread%20is%20super-easy%20to%20make%20yourself%20(I%20adapted%20it%20from%20this%20recipe).%20It's%20a%20good%20base,%20so%20add%20whatever%20you%20want%20to%20it.%20You%20could%20add%20dried%20fruit%20and%20nuts,%20or%20seeds,%20or%20wheat%20berries,%20anything.%20I'm%20going%20to%20try%20it%20with%20gluten-free%20flour%20soon%20and%20see%20how%20it%20works%20as%20a%20gluten-free%20bread.%20It%20seems%20pretty%20flexible!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWHOLEGRAIN%20QUICKBREAD%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPreheat%20the%20oven%20to%20450%20F.%20Lightly%20oil%20a%20baking%20sheet%20or%20cover%20it%20with%20parchment%20paper.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EChuck%20all%20the%20dry%20ingredients%20into%20a%20bowl,%20just%20as%20is.%20Whisk%20it%20together%20with%20a%20fork.%20Pour%20the%20milk%20into%20a%20measuring%20cup,%20add%20in%20the%20olive%20oil%20and%20maple%20syrup,%20and%20whisk%20them%20together%20too.%20Pour%20the%20wet%20ingredients%20into%20the%20dry,%20mix%20it%20up%20with%20that%20fork%20until%20evenly%20blended,%20and%20spoon%20it%20all%20out%20onto%20the%20cookie%20sheet%20in%20a%20big%20rounded%20pile.%20Pat%20it%20into%20a%20round,%20even%20loaf%20with%20your%20hands%20and%20stick%20it%20in%20the%20oven.%20Bake%20for%2025%20minutes%20or%20until%20the%20bottom%20sounds%20hollow%20when%20tapped.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20is%20by%20far%20the%20easiest%20bread%20I%20have%20ever%20made,%20and%20it's%20delicious.%20You%20can%20use%20honey%20instead%20of%20maple%20syrup,%20soy/rice%20milk%20instead%20of%20cow's,%20a%20nut%20flour%20instead%20of%20the%20flaxmeal%20(but%20the%20flaxmeal%20is%20so%20good%20for%20you!),%20add%20those%20seeds,%20nuts,%20fruit,%20etc...%20go%20crazy%20with%20it.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EJust%20make%20sure%20you%20enjoy%20it%20on%20the%20porch.%20It%20goes%20best%20with%20a%20rainy%20evening.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
