%20-%20you%20would%20never%20be%20able%20to%20buy%20something%20like%20that%20here%20for%20less%20than%20around%20$8:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETim%20and%20I%20then%20paid%20homage%20to%20the%20Twinkie:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBecause%20we%20could.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAfter%20lunch,%20we%20rolled%20on%20to%20the%20Oklahoma%20Route%2066%20Museum%20in%20Clinton.%20%20They%20had%20plenty%20of%20cool%20signs%20on%20display:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Eand%20a%20fab%20map%20of%20Route%2066:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAfter%20spending%20some%20time%20at%20the%20museum,%20and%20taking%20some%20time%20to%20send%20an%20electronic%20postcard%20or%20two,%20we%20crossed%20the%20border%20into%20Texas.%20%20There,%20we%20visited%20the%20town%20of%20Shamrock,%20featuring%20an%20iconic%20art%20deco%20Conoco%20gas%20station%20and%20the%20U-Drop-Inn%20Cafe:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOur%20tour%20bus%20then%20trundled%20into%20Amarillo,%20where%20we%20joined%20our%20tour%20group%20for%20dinner%20at%20The%20Big%20Texan:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20main%20claim%20to%20fame%20of%20The%20Big%20Texan%20is%20their%2072oz%20steak%20challenge%20-%20if%20you%20can%20eat%20one,%20plus%20all%20the%20sides%20that%20come%20with%20it,%20in%20one%20hour,%20you%20get%20it%20free.%20%20Thankfully,%20on%20the%20night%20that%20we%20visited,%20no-one%20took%20the%20challenge.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHere's%20Tim%20sitting%20in%20the%20frontier-style%20interior%20excitedly%20anticipating%20his%20feast:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EUnfortunately,%20there%20was%20not%20a%20lot%20to%20get%20excited%20about.%20%20There%20was%20yet%20another%20garden%20salad:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Eand%20then%20the%20star%20of%20the%20show%20arrives%20-%20the%20steak:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20steak%20was%20served%20medium%20rare,%20the%20way%20I%20like%20it,%20but%20sadly%20not%20how%20many%20of%20the%20older%20members%20of%20our%20tour%20like%20it,%20being%20brought%20up%20on%20steak%20cooked%20%22well%20done%22%20to%20a%20rubbery%20grey%20puck.%20%20I%20enjoyed%20the%20steak,%20but%20the%20sides%20-%20some%20soggy%20beans,%20an%20enormous%20foil-baked%20potato%20and%20a%20dinner%20roll%20-%20were%20less%20than%20inviting.%20%20Oh%20yes,%20if%20you%20are%20brave%20or%20stupid,%20there%20is%20also%20an%20enormous%20green%20chilli%20served%20on%20the%20side.%20%20Our%20tour%20director,%20Bob,%20told%20us%20a%20rather%20embarrassing%20(for%20him!)%20story%20about%20eating%20this%20chilli%20once,%20but%20I%20won't%20publish%20it%20here.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20Big%20Texan%20also%20has%20a%20gift%20shop%20attached,%20and%20has%20various%20forms%20of%20in%20house%20amusement.%20%20There%20is%20even%20a%20Zoltar,%20just%20like%20the%20one%20in%20Big%20(you%20know,%20the%20movie%20where%20Tom%20Hanks%20plays%20a%20kidult%20after%20wishing%20on%20a%20Zoltar%20that%20he%20was%20a%20grown%20up).%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20wouldn't%20say%20that%20I'd%20go%20back%20to%20The%20Big%20Texan,%20as%20popular%20as%20it%20is%20with%20the%20punters,%20but%20it%20is%20a%20once-off%20experience%20if%20you%20find%20yourself%20in%20Amarillo.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBricktown%20District%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOklahoma%20City,%20OK%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EUnited%20States%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E620%20N.%20Harvey%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOklahoma%20City,%20OK%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EUnited%20States%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPh:%20+1%20405%20235%203313%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E1700%20NE%2063rd%20St%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOklahoma%20City,%20OK%2073111%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EUnited%20States%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPh:%20+1%20405%20478%202250%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E2229%20W%20Gary%20Blvd%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EClinton,%20OK%2073601%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EUnited%20States%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPh:%20+1%20580%20323%207866%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EU-Drop-Inn101%20E.%2012th%20Street%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EShamrock,%20TX%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EUnited%20States%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E7701%20Interstate%2040%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAmarillo,%20TX%2079118%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EUnited%20States%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPh:%20+1%20806%20372%206000%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
