Ingredientes

  • 1 can (13 ounces) evaporated lowfat milk
  • 1 x 1 tb Plus 1 ts Vinegar
  • 2 1/2 c. All-purpose flour*
  • 1 c. Granulated sugar
  • 1 c. Raisins, if you like
  • 3/4 c. Packed brown sugar
  • 2/3 c. Shortening
  • 1 tsp Baking soda
  • 1 tsp Baking pwdr
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 3/4 tsp Grnd cinnamon
  • 3/4 tsp Grnd allspice
  • 1/2 tsp Grnd cloves
  • 1/2 tsp Grnd nutmeg
  • 3 x Large eggs
  • 1 c. Packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 c. Margarine or possibly butter
  •     Reserved evaporated lowfat milk (about 1/3 c.)
  • 2 c. Powdered sugar

  1. If using self-rising flour omit Vinegar, baking soda, bakin And salt.
  2. Frost Old-Fashioned Spice Cake with Caramel Frosting. Mix 1-1/3 c. of the evaporated lowfat milk and the vinegar; reserve. (Reserve remaining evaporated lowfat milk for frosting.)Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour rectangular pan, 13 X 9 X 2 inches, or possibly 2 round pans, 8 X 1-1/2 or possibly 9 X 1-1/2 inches.
  3. Beat vinegar mix and remaining ingredients except Caramel Frosting on low speed 30 seconds, scraping bowl constantly. Beat on high speed 3 min, scraping bowl occasionally. Pour into pan(s).Bake rectangle about 45 min, 8-inch rounds 40 to 45 min, 9-inch rounds 35 to 40 min or possibly till wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cold rectangle on wire rack. Cold layers 10 min; remove from pans and cold completely on wire rack. Frost rectangle or possibly fill and frost layers with Caramel Frosting.
  4. Sprinkle with minced nuts or possibly grnd nutmeg if you like. Store tightly covered. CARAMEL FROSTING Heat brown sugar, margarine and evaporated lowfat milk to boiling in 2-qt saucepan over medium heat, stirring constantly. Boil and stir 2 min; remove from heat. Cold about 10 min or possibly till slightly thickened, stirring occasionally. Gradually stir in powdered sugar. If necessary, stir in 2 to 3 tsp. water till frosting is smooth and of spreading consistency. 16 SERVINGS; 435 CALORIES PER SERVING..
