- In large wide saucepan over med-high, brown sausages (8 mins) and drain fat.
- Add in tomatoes, breaking with fork. Stir in 2-1/2 c. water, rice, and basil. Stir in 1/2 tsp salt. Cover and bring to boil. As soon as mix starts to boil, reduce heat to low and simmer for 20 mins, stirring once.
- Stir in pepper, cover, and simmer 5 mins.
- Jazzy Cajun Stir-In: Instead of basil, use 1 tsp chili pwdr, 1/2 tsp each dry mustard, leaf thyme and garlic pwdr, and 1/4 tsp pepper. Truly fiery, add in 1/4 tsp cayenne.
