.%20It%20was%20a%20carousing%20cowboy%20town%20with%20a%20main%20street%20full%20of%20brothels.%20The%20downtown%20area%20is%20still%20cute%20but%20I%20didn't%20see%20any%20brothels!%20I%20did%20see%20a%20lot%20of%20neat%20neon,%20like%20the%20sign%20at%20this%20restaurant%20I%20ate%20at%20the%20first%20night.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMac%20and%20Cheese%20with%20bacon%20and%20jalapenos!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHow%20about%20another%20claim%20to%20fame%20for%20Pendleton....the%20woolen%20mills.%20Some%20of%20you%20out%20there%20are%20bound%20to%20have%20heard%20of%20Pendleton%20wool.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDinner%20the%20second%20night%20was%20at%20an%20awesome%20old%20western%20steakhouse%20inspired%20Virgils%20at%20Cimmiyotti's.%20It%20was%20like%20stepping%20back%20in%20time..and%20not%20necessarily%20the%20old%20west.%20It%20was%20more%20like%20a%2050s%20supper%20club.%20Red%20velvet%20wallpaper,%20dark%20wood%20and%20stainglass%20lamps%20plus%20the%20gracious%20owner/hostess%20wearing%20a%2050s%20inspired%20evening%20gown.%20The%20food%20and%20service%20were%20outstanding,%20but%20I%20was%20only%20brave%20enough%20to%20take%20one%20sly%20cell%20phone%20photo%20of%20my%20beautifully%20garnished%20house%20salad.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20did%20find%20this%20one%20on%20Yelp.%20I%20sat%20in%20the%20seat%20right%20behind%20the%20server..who%20happened%20to%20be%20mine!%20This%20would%20be%20the%20perfect%20date%20restaurant.%20I%20had%20the%20Virgil's%20Steak%20Oscar%20with%20sweet%20potato%20fries.%20Everything%20was%20perfect.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESo%20Wednesday%20night%20I%20drove%20out%20of%20Pendleton...%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWalla%20Walla%20seemed%20to%20have%20a%20lot%20to%20offer%20restaurant%20wise,%20but%20after%20I%20failed%20to%20find%20a%20couple%20on%20my%20list%20I%20was%20getting%20a%20tiny%20bit%20desperate%20(=hungry)%20so%20I%20just%20decided%20to%20pick%20the%20closest%20restaurant%20that%20my%20trusty%20GPS%20had%20to%20offer.%20That's%20how%20I%20ended%20up%20at%20Clarette's%20on%20the%20skirts%20of%20little%20Whitman%20College.%20It%20was%20night%20when%20I%20got%20there...so%20I%20didn't%20take%20a%20pic%20but%20I'm%20getting%20pretty%20good%20at%20this%20swiping%20bit.%20Courtesy%20of%20Yelp.%20As%20you%20can%20see%20it's%20just%20a%20diner%20type%20establishment,%20but%20with%20some%20very%20tasty%20food.%20The%20menu%20was%20a%20surprising%20multipaged%20jobby%20and%20I%20had%20a%20hard%20time%20deciding%20on%20my%20meal%20but%20settled%20on%20Potato%20Pancakes.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ENow%20I%20thought%20the%20pancakes%20would%20look%20like%20all%20of%20the%20other%20potato%20pancackes%20I've%20eaten..little%20flattened%20mounds%20of%20shredded%20potatoes.%20But%20what%20came%20to%20my%20table%20looked%20exactly%20like%20regular%20if%20not%20a%20bit%20flat%20pancakes.%20Hmmm...was%20my%20first%20thought.%20Served%20with%20bacon%20and%20applesauce%20with%20various%20syrups%20brought%20to%20the%20table.%20I%20settled%20on%20the%20apricot%20syrup%20and%20a%20little%20applesauce%20combined%20and%20dug%20in.%20Definitely%20more%20potatoey%20than%20pancakey%20in%20taste%20but%20I%20loved%20the%20texture.%20I%20had%20to%20try%20and%20recreate%20when%20I%20got%20home.%20They%20were%20so%20yum%20I%20failed%20to%20take%20any%20photos,%20but%20here's%20my%20take%20on%20Clarette's%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMix%20well%20flour,%20buttermilk,%20baking%20soda%20and%20eggs.%20Add%20shredded%20potatoes,%20onions%20and%20green%20onions.%20Salt%20and%20pepper%20to%20taste.%20Heat%20skillet%20to%20medium%20high%20and%20melt%20some%20of%20the%20butter%20to%20grease%20bottom.%20Pour%20spoonfuls%20of%20batter%20to%20make%20pancakes.%20Flatten%20mounds%20of%20potatoes%20to%20spread%20over%20entire%20pancake.%20This%20made%207%20good%20sized%20pancakes%20and%20was%20more%20than%20enough%20to%20feed%20two%20people.%20Serve%20with%20pats%20of%20butter%20&%20apple%20sauce,%20apricot%20syrup%20or%20preserves%20or%20ketchup%20or%20all%20three.%20I%20enjoyed%20the%20preserves...Randy%20like%20the%20ketchup.%20Clarette's%20served%20with%20applesauce%20but%20had%20syrups%20on%20the%20table...the%20apricot%20was%20perfect.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
