- Peel onions. Add in salt and let stand overnight. In the morning, put in colander and rinse thoroughly with cool water to remove all salt. Drain. Tie spices loosely in a bag; boil 10 min with vinegar and sugar. Throw away spices. Pack onions into warm, sterilized jars. pour boiling warm vinegar mix over. Seal at once. Makes 8 pints.
