,%20peaches%20often%20eaten%20just%20standing%20over%20the%20sink%20and%20plums,%20gorgeous%20little%20orbs%20that%20I%20like%20fine%20from%20my%20hand%20but%20I%20have%20learned%20to%20LOVE%20cooked%20into%20a%20tart%20or%20pie.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELast%20Sunday%20I%20went%20to%20a%20local%20farmers%20market%20and%20I%20happened%20to%20time%20it%20just%20right.%20Later%20than%20I%20would%20have%20liked,%20it%20turned%20out%20to%20be%20perfect%20as%20the%20stand%20I%20went%20up%20to%20first%20was%20handing%20out%20bags%20with%20the%20offer%20of%20$10%20to%20fill%20them%20up.%20No%20problem.%20I%20did%20just%20that!%20Poblano%20peppers,eggplant,%20zucchini%20and%20patty%20pan%20squash,%20tomatoes%20and%20potatoes,%20pears%20and%20pluots.%20I%20was%20looking%20for%20plums%20but%20these%20pluots%20were%20perfect.%20Firm%20but%20ripe%20and%20a%20bit%20less%20sweet%20than%20a%20plum,%20I%20thought%20they%20would%20be%20perfect%20for%20a%20tart%20I%20wanted%20to%20make%20using%20up%20the%20rest%20of%20the%20puff%20pastry%20I%20had%20in%20the%20fridge.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhat%20is%20a%20pluot%20you%20say?%20Well,%20many%20think%20they%20are%20half%20plum%20and%20half%20apricot%20but%20that%20combination%20is%20actually%20called%20a%20plumcot.%20Pluots%20are%20the%20result%20of%20a%20fellow%20named%20Zaiger%20crossbreeding%20plumcots%20with%20plums;%20resulting%20in%20a%20fruit%20that%20is%20generally%2060-75%25%20plum%20and%20the%20remainder%20apricot.%20As%20the%20Zaigers%20began%20backcrossing%20plumcots%20with%20plums%20to%20create%20more%20complex%20hybrids%20(with%20varying%20ratios%20of%20plum%20to%20apricot),%20they%20wanted%20to%20market%20them%20with%20a%20different%20name%E2%80%94one%20that%20wouldn%E2%80%99t%20be%20tarnished%20by%20the%20notoriety%20of%20plumcots.%20Thus%20they%20trademarked%20the%20name%20pluot%20(pronounced%20plew-ott)%20in%201990.%20(They%20renewed%20the%20trademark%20in%202007.)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThey%20were%20sweet%20but%20not%20TOO%20sweet%20and%20had%20a%20beautiful%20color;%20just%20perfect,%20well,%20except%20for%20one%20thing.%20As%20long%20as%20someone%20is%20going%20to%20invest%20time%20in%20breeding%20fruit,%20why%20on%20earth%20they%20don%E2%80%99t%20make%20them%20cling-free%20is%20beyond%20me.%20The%20first%20half%20pulled%20off%20the%20pit%20relatively%20easily%20but%20I%20had%20to%20do%20surgery%20with%20a%20small%20paring%20knife%20to%20remove%20it%20from%20the%20second%20half%20of%20the%20fruit.%20I%E2%80%99m%20certain%20there%20was%20a%20GRR%20or%20two%20said%20during%20that%20process.%20Still,%20not%20a%20biggy%20and%20I%20soon%20had%20my%20fruit%20pitted%20and%20quartered.%20I%20like%20doing%20very%20little%20to%20fruit%20that%20is%20this%20fresh%20in%20the%20summer,%20so%20a%20short%20maceration%20in%20some%20orange%20liqueur%20and%20orange%20zest%20and%20we%20were%20good%20to%20go.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20normally%20use%20mascarpone%20cheese%20when%20I%20want%20to%20seal%20a%20crust%20that%20I%E2%80%99m%20going%20to%20fill%20with%20fresh%20fruit%20but%20this%20time%20around%20it%20was%20baked%20for%20just%20a%20bit%20with%20the%20pluots.%20Just%20enough%20of%20a%20filling%20element%20to%20hold%20the%20pluots%20in%20place%20without%20being%20so%20much%20that%20it%20masked%20their%20fantastic%20flavor.%20I%20did%20have%20one%20little%20hiccup.%20I%20decided%20to%20blind%20bake%20the%20puff%20pastry%20as%20I%20didn%E2%80%99t%20want%20to%20cook%20the%20fruit%20or%20cheese%20for%20the%20time%20it%20would%20take%20to%20bake.%20Um,%20hello%20big%20domed%20thing%20in%20my%20oven%20(doggone%20that%E2%80%99s%20what%20I%20should%20have%20gotten%20a%20photo%20of!).%20SO%20glad%20I%20looked%20before%20it%20had%20become%20too%20crispy.%20Doing%20the%20same%20thing?%20I%20had%20to%20remove%20it%20from%20the%20oven%20three%20times%20and%20prick%20it%20with%20a%20fork%20to%20let%20the%20air%20escape.%20Now%20if%20I%20could%20find%20a%20dessert%20to%20make%20with%20that%20big%20dome;%20I%20will%20tell%20%20you%20it%20was%20pretty%20spectacular%20looking!%20I%20think%20you%20could%20use%20any%20stone%20fruit%20for%20this%20tart%20or%20a%20combination%20even.%20Just%20make%20sure%20it%E2%80%99s%20ready%20and%20ripe;%20there%20is%20not%20a%20lot%20of%20cooking;%20it%E2%80%99s%20all%20about%20the%20fruit%20being%20fresh,%20ripe%20and%20fabulous!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPlum%20Tart%20with%20Brown%20Sugar%20Mascarpone%20Cream%20and%20Walnuts%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIngredients%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPreparation%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPreheat%20the%20oven%20to%20400'%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECut%20the%20plums%20into%20quarters%20and%20add%20them%20to%20a%20bowl%20with%20the%20orange%20liqueur%20and%20orange%20zest%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFit%20the%20Puff%20Pastry%20into%20a%20tart%20pan.%20(I%20didn't%20have%20a%20tart%20pan%20to%20use%20where%20I'm%20living%20right%20now,%20so%20I%20just%20used%20some%20aluminum%20foil%20to%20create%20a%20smaller%20form%20on%20a%20cookie%20sheet%20and%20then%20folded%20over%20the%20dough%20about%201/2%20inch%20all%20the%20way%20aro
