%20and%20a%20set%20of%20tongs%20which%20are%20useful%20for%20lifting%20the%20racks%20out.%20%20%20You%20can%20also%20buy%20special%20cooking%20pans%20that%20will%20fit%20perfectly%20into%20the%20oven.%20%20%20You%20can%20cook%20either%20directly%20on%20the%20racks,%20or%20in%20dishes%20and%20trays%20which%20are%20the%20right%20size%20to%20fit%20in.%20%20There%20are%20two%20control%20switches%20on%20the%20top,%20one%20which%20controls%20the%20temperature%20of%20the%20oven%20and%20the%20other%20which%20controls%20the%20time.%20%20Easy%20peasy.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20first%20thing%20I%20cooked%20in%20it%20was%20a%20chicken%20crown.%20%20It%20was%20one%20I%20had%20picked%20up%20at%20the%20grocery%20store%20and%20was%20already%20seasoned%20with%20lemon%20and%20pepper.%20%20I%20added%20a%20nice%20knob%20of%20butter%20to%20the%20top.%20%20It%20was%20quite%20interesting%20to%20watch%20the%20oven%20at%20work.%20%20That%20light%20was%20really%20bright.%20%20%20It%20didn't%20stay%20on%20the%20whole%20time.%20%20It%20flashed%20on%20and%20off%20and%20the%20fan%20inside%20blew%20the%20hot%20air%20around.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIt%20was%20a%20fairly%20large%20chicken%20crown%20and%20so%20I%20put%20it%20in%20at%20200*C/400*F%20for%20approximately%2045%20minutes,%20which%20was%20slightly%20less%20than%20the%20time%20recommended%20in%20the%20package.%20%20I%20was%20glad%20that%20I%20had.%20%20It%20does%20seem%20to%20cook%20a%20lot%20quicker%20than%20the%20conventional%20oven.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIn%20fact%20I%20was%20quite%20concerned%20when%20I%20took%20it%20out,%20thinking%20I%20had%20actually%20cremated%20it.%20%20Scary!%20%20It%20looks%20quite%20black%20doesn't%20it.%20%20%20But%20.%20.%20.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20chicken%20meat%20itself%20was%20really%20moist%20and%20perfectly%20cooked.%20%20I%20think%20the%20herb%20mixture%20on%20top%20had%20caused%20the%20skin%20to%20blacken%20somewhat,%20which%20really%20wasn't%20a%20problem%20at%20all.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ENext%20I%20decided%20to%20cook%20a%20potato%20and%20parsnip%20gratin%20in%20it.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIt%20was%20a%20very%20simple%20gratin,%20composed%20simply%20of%20thinly%20sliced%20potatoes%20and%20parsnips,%20layered%20%20with%20some%20chopped%20onion,%20herbs%20and%20cheese,%20along%20with%20some%20milk.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EApparently%20it%20can%20take%20some%20vegetables%20longer%20too%20cook%20in%20the%20Halogen%20Oven%20than%20others.%20%20I%20hedged%20my%20bets%20by%20slicing%20mine%20really%20thin%20and%20the%20dish%20was%20perfectly%20done%20in%20about%20an%20hour.%20%20I%20removed%20the%20foil%20from%20the%20top%20for%20the%20last%20fifteen%20minutes%20so%20that%20the%20top%20would%20brown.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIt%20went%20really%20well%20with%20the%20chicken.%20%20The%20vegetables%20were%20cooked%20perfectly,%20and%20maintained%20their%20shape.%20%20Taking%20the%20cover%20off%20for%20the%20last%20fifteen%20minutes%20made%20for%20a%20lovely%20golden%20topping,%20and%20it%20wasn't%20dry%20at%20all.%20%20%20In%20short%20perfect.%20%20I%20was%20very%20impressed%20with%20it's%20performance.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E*Potato%20and%20Parsnip%20Gratin*%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMakes%202%20to%203%20servings%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIt%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Etakes%20a%20while%20to%20cook,%20but%20it's%20so%20delicious%20it%20is%20well%20worth%20the%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Ewait.%20%20Instructions%20are%20for%20the%20Halogen%20oven,%20but%20you%20can%20just%20as%20easily%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Ebake%20this%20in%20a%20regular%20oven.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Eand%20cover%20with%20tightly%20with%20some%20buttered%20foil%20or%20a%20lid.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPut%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Ethe%20dish%20into%20the%20hot%20oven.%20%20Cook%20for%2060%20minutes%20until%20piping%20hot%20and%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Ecooked%20through.%20%20%20I%20uncovered%20it%20for%20the%20last%2015%20minutes%20and%20got%20a%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Elovely%20golden%20brown%20top.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAlternately%20you%20can%20do%20this%20in%20a%20regular%20oven%20at%20the%20same%20temperature%20and%20for%20the%20same%20time.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20am%20going%20to%20try%20to%20bake%20something%20in%20it%20next.%20%20%20I%20think%20possibly%20a%20flourless%20chocolate%20cake.%20%20What%20do%20you%20think???%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESo%20my%20verdict.%20%20The%20oven%20did%20indeed%20cook%20in%20a%20shorter%20time%20and%20so%20would%20save%20a%20bit%20on%20the%20electric%20bill,%20and%20everything%20I%20cooked%20in%20it%20was%20moist%20and%20not%20dry.%20%20The%20chicken%20was%20especially%20succulent,%20which%20is%20good%20for%20a%20chicken%20breast%20which%20can%20dry%20out%20so%20very%20easily.%20%20It%20was%20fairly%20easy%20to%20use.%20%20It%20is%20a%20bit%20on%20the%20bulky%20side,%20but%20I%20have%20a%20very%20small%20kitchen%20and%20so%20something%20doesn't%20have%20to%20be%20very%20large%20in%20order%20to%20cause%20storage%20stress.%20%20It%20is%20the%20perfect%20size%20for%20Todd%20and%20myself,%20but%20I%20can%20see%20where%20it%20would%20be%20somewhat%20limiting%20to%20anyone%20who%20had%20a%20large%20family%20to%20cook%20for.%20%20A%20small%20to%20medium%20size%20chicken%20could%20fit%20in%20quite%20nicely,%20but%20I%20don't%20think%20you%20would%20get%20a%20large%20one%20in,%20or%20a%20small%20turkey%20either.%20%20It%20would%20have%20to%20be%20very%20small.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHere%20is%20one%20of%20the%20biggest%20bonus's%20of%20all%20%20.%20.%20.%20.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIt%20is%20basically%20self%20cleaning,%20which%20is%20just%20fabulous!%20%20You%20just%20add%20cool%20water%20and%20a%20bit%20of%20soap%20to%20the%20bowl,%20once%20it%20has%20cooled%20down.%20%20(Don't%20add%20cold%20water%20to%20a%20hot%20bowl!)%20Turn%20it%20onto%20the%20clean%20cycle%20for%20about%2010%20to%2015%20minutes%20and%20Bob's%20your%20uncle!%20%20Done!%20%20Most%20impressive.%20%20All%20I%20had%20to%20do%20was%20to%20rinse%20it%20and%20wipe%20it%20out%20with%20a%20towel%20to%20dry.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EYou%20can%20get%20one%20of%20these%20lovely%20ovens%20at%20Argos%20right%20now%20for%20%C2%A344.99,%20which%20is%2025%25%20off%20the%20regular%20price.%20%20The%20delivery%20time%20is%20really%20quick%20or%20you%20can%20pick%20it%20up%20sooner%20if%20you%20have%20an%20Argos%20in%20your%20immediate%20area.%20%20I%20highly%20recommend.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
