%20I%20remember%20having%20bought%20it%20once%20long%20ago%20and%20being%20severely%20underwhelmed.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMost%20of%20the%20time%20when%20I%20find%20Potted%20Meat,%20it's%20either%20Libby%20or%20Armour%20brand,%20and%20stocked%20on%20the%20shelves%20next%20to%20the%20Vienna%20Sausage.%20But%20at%20Dollar%20Tree,%20the%20Potted%20Meat%20has%20it's%20very%20own%20shelf,%20and%20different%20brands%20are%20sold%20side%20by%20side.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd%20that's%20how%20I%20found%20Brunswick%20Potted%20Meat%20With%20Crackers.%20How%20cool!%20It's%20just%20like%20having%20an%20entire%20lunch%20in%20one%20convenient%20package!%20Because%20the%20Brunswick%20kit%20came%20with%20Bryan%20Potted%20Meat,%20a%20brand%20I%20had%20never%20tried%20before,%20I%20also%20picked%20up%20a%20can%20of%20Armour%20Potted%20Meat%20so%20i%20could%20do%20a%20side%20by%20side%20comparison.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAfter%20I%20got%20the%20stuff%20home,%20though,%20I%20discovered%20that%20I%20really%20didn't%20need%20to%20compare%20these%20side%20by%20side.%20I%20noticed%20the%20USDA%20inspection%20seals%20-%20Both%20of%20them%20were%20made%20at%20Establishment%20P-4247.%20That's%20Pinnacle%20Foods,%20owner%20of%20the%20Armour%20brand%20as%20well%20as%20others%20like%20Hartford%20House%20and%20Hungry%20Man.%20Apparently,%20their%20plant%20is%20also%20making%20Potted%20Meat%20for%20sale%20under%20other%20labels...such%20as%20Bryan.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20primary%20ingredients%20of%20Potted%20Meat%20these%20days%20are%20mechanically%20separated%20chicken,%20beef%20tripe,%20and%20salt.%20There%20are%20traces%20of%20seasonings%20and%20spices%20as%20well.%20%22Mechanically%20separated%20chicken%22%20is%20a%20meat%20product%20which%20celebrates%20the%20triumph%20of%20technology%20over%20nature.%20Chicken%20carcasses%20and%20bones%20which%20are%20left%20over%20from%20normal%20processing%20are%20forced%20through%20a%20sieve%20under%20high%20pressure,%20removing%20every%20last%20bit%20of%20meat%20from%20them.%20This%20makes%20the%20final%20product%20very%20finely%20ground%20and%20paste-like.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20Brunswick%20lunch%20pack%20comes%20with%20a%20small%20Mylar%20packet%20containing%20five%20nondescript%20round%20crackers,%20a%20tiny%20plastic%20spoon/spreader%20for%20the%20Potted%20Meat,%20and%20the%20can%20of%20Bryan%20Potted%20Meat.%20There%20are%20a%20couple%20problems%20with%20this%20setup.%20First,%20five%20crackers%20are%20a%20totally%20stingy%20portion.%20Even%20with%20the%20Potted%20Meat%20heaped%20generously%20upon%20them,%20I%20still%20ran%20out%20of%20crackers%20long%20before%20running%20out%20of%20Potted%20Meat.%20And%20trust%20me,%20having%20enough%20crackers%20is%20critical%20to%20the%20enjoyment%20of%20this%20product.%20The%20texture%20of%20the%20Potted%20Meat%20is%20pretty%20horrendous.%20It's%20a%20slippery%20paste%20with%20a%20slightly%20granular%20feel%20(thanks%20to%20the%20tripe)%20with%20nothing%20to%20sink%20your%20teeth%20into.%20Putting%20it%20on%20a%20crispy%20cracker%20gives%20it%20a%20more%20pleasing%20texture%20along%20with%20a%20satisfying%20crunch.%20And%20when%20the%20crackers%20run%20out,%20it's%20a%20lot%20harder%20to%20be%20enthusiastic%20about%20eating%20a%20can%20of%20salty%20meat%20paste.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAs%20for%20the%20flavor%20-%20well,%20if%20you've%20ever%20eaten%20a%20Vienna%20Sausage%20or%20some%20cheap%20bologna,%20you%20kind%20of%20know%20what%20Potted%20Meat%20tastes%20like.%20But%20not%20really%20because%20the%20flavor%20of%20the%20beef%20tripe%20really%20does%20stand%20out%20against%20the%20bland%20%22white%20slime%22%20chicken.%20And%20above%20all%20else,%20there's%20the%20salt:%20the%20choking,%20throat-parching%20salt%20-%20enough,%20it%20seems,%20to%20cause%20cardiac%20arrest.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EClearly,%20Potted%20Meat%20is%20virtually%20inedible%20on%20its%20own.%20And%20yet,%20there%20has%20to%20be%20a%20market%20for%20it%20-%20Armour%20wouldn't%20be%20producing%20so%20many%20cans%20of%20it%20if%20no%20one%20were%20buying%20the%20stuff.%20%20Perhaps%20people%20are%20creating%20some%20of%20the%20various%20snackular%20dishes%20that%20Armour%20suggests%20on%20their%20website.%20Things%20like:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETangy%20Spread%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECombine%20first%204%20ingredients,%20mix%20well.%20Spread%20mixture%20on%20bread%20slices.%20Broil%205-10%20minutes,%20or%20until%20brown.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
