%20didn%E2%80%99t%20know%20much%20about%20it%20and%20was%20trying%20instead%20to%20push%20the%20%C2%A317%20a%20kilo%20haddock%20on%20me,%20but%20with%20the%20Pouting%20at%20only%20%C2%A35%20a%20kilo,%20it%20was%20infinitely%20more%20appealing%20and%20so%20armed%20with%20all%20the%20knowledge%20the%20little%20placard%20gave%20me%20(I.e.%20not%20much)%20and%20a%20newly%20found%20confidence%20I%20took%20my%20fillets%20home%20and%20decided%20to%20try%20out%20a%20recipe%20that%20had%20been%20recommended%20from%20the%20BBC%20Good%20Food%20website!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMy%20fish%20repertoire%20is%20normally%20limited%20to%20baking%20fillets%20or%20poaching,%20which%20I%20do%20perfectly%20well%20but%20I%20wanted%20to%20liven%20things%20up%20a%20bit%20and%20this%20recipe%20allowed%20me%20to%20pan%20fry%20the%20fillets,%20something%20of%20a%20first%20for%20me!%20It%20was%20a%20little%20scary%20but%20now%20its%20done,%20its%20certainly%20something%20i%20am%20no%20longer%20in%20fear%20of!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELike%20always%20I%20didn%E2%80%99t%20follow%20the%20recipe%20exactly;%20I%20omitted%20the%20flageolet%20beans%20for%20cannellini,%20mainly%20as%20I%20have%20a%20thing%20about%20them%20lately,%20also%20substituted%20vermouth%20for%20the%20wine,%20and%20accidently%20bought%20bacon%20medallions%20rather%20than%20streaky,%20so%20didn%E2%80%99t%20quite%20impart%20the%20full%20bacony%20flavour.%20Additionally%20I%20had%20to%20keep%20the%20cabbage%20part%20bit%20warm%20for%20a%20little%20longer%20than%20anticipated%20so%20lost%20its%20shine%20slightly,%20however%20despite%20all%20this%20I%20do%20think%20this%20recipe%20is%20a%20keeper,%20and%20with%20a%20little%20tweaking%20it%20could%20be%20a%20very%20good%20dish%20indeed!%20I%20really%20liked%20the%20bacon%20and%20fish%20combination,%20as%20some%20time%20back%20at%20a%20food%20show%20I%20had%20tried%20scallops%20cooked%20with%20pancetta,%20and%20was%20very%20pleasantly%20surprised%20at%20how%20well%20it%20worked%20together!%20Now%20I've%20finally%20made%20this%20I%20will%20be%20definitely%20exploring%20this%20area%20of%20cooking%20further!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20recipe%20is%20easy%20to%20make,%20and%20ideal%20for%20a%20work%20night%20meal,%20taking%20no%20longer%20than%20about%2030%20minutes%20to%20assemble%20and%20cook.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EServes%202%20-%20original%20recipes%20serves%204%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIngredients%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E2%20sustainable%20white%20fish%20fillets,%20skin%20on%20and%20pinboned%20(why%20do%20I%20always%20get%20the%20bones?!)%20-%20I%20used%20Pouting%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIn%20a%20large%20saute%20pan,%20melt%20the%20butter%20and%20add%20the%20bacon,%20fry%20for%20a%20couple%20of%20minutes%20and%20then%20add%20the%20carrot,%20celery%20and%20onion,%20fry%20for%20about%208-10%20minutes%20until%20softened%20without%20browning.%20Add%20the%20cabbage,%20fry%20for%20a%20couple%20of%20minutes%20until%20just%20wilted,%20stir%20in%20the%20vermouth%20(or%20wine),%20simmer%20until%20it%20has%20evaporated%20and%20then%20add%20the%20stock%20and%20beans,%20cover%20the%20pan%20and%20simmer%20for%20a%20further%2010%20minutes%20or%20until%20the%20cabbage%20is%20cooked%20but%20still%20%20nicely%20green.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHeat%20the%20olive%20oil%20in%20a%20frying%20pan%20until%20bubbling,%20dust%20the%20fish%20fillets%20in%20the%20seasoned%20flour%20and%20fry%20skin%20side%20down%20for%204%20minutes,%20until%20crisp%20-%20press%20down%20to%20stop%20the%20fish%20curling%20up%20(ideally%20using%20a%20fish%20slice%20rather%20than%20your%20fingers!)%20-%20turn%20over%20and%20fry%20until%20cooked%20through%20-%20about%202-3%20minutes,%20the%20fish%20should%20be%20opaque%20and%20flake%20easily.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPlace%20the%20cabbage%20and%20its%20juices%20into%20serving%20bowls,%20top%20with%20the%20fish%20and%20garnish%20if%20desired.%20These%20are%20our%20new%20pasta%20bowls%20-%20don't%20you%20just%20love%20a%20Whittards%20sale!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20recipe%20suggests%20serving%20with%20some%20new%20potatoes%20if%20desired,%20personally%20I%20found%20it%20quite%20filling%20but%20served%20with%20some%20freshly%20baked%20rolls,%20which%20were%20great%20for%20dunking%20in%20the%20juices!%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
