%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThese%20days%20the%20climate%20is%20obviously%20chilly%20and%20there's%20nothing%20better%20than%20something%20warm%20and%20spicy%20and%20tongue%20tickling%20right?%20There%20are%20so%20many%20different%20kinds%20of%20Rasam,%20like%20Tomato%20Rasam,%20Pineapple%20rasam,%20Moong%20dal%20rasam%20etc%20etc,%20its%20quite%20endless.%20I've%20just%20done%20a%20simple%20Tomato%20rasam%20the%20same%20way%20my%20MIL%20prepares%20but%20modified%20a%20little!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20included%20Red%20Radishes%20(something%20that%20I%20always%20have%20in%20my%20fridge).%20I%20love%20the%20mild%20peppery%20taste%20it%20provides%20and%20it%20becomes%20quite%20soft%20yet%20has%20a%20mild%20bite%20to%20it%20once%20cooked.%20Radishes%20are%20very%20healthy%20too%20and%20one%20of%20my%20favorite%20reason%20to%20eat%20them%20(raw%20or%20cooked)%20%20are%20-%20they%20help%20in%20weight%20loss%20;-)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHere's%20some%20good%20info%20on%20health%20benefits%20of%20Radish.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20platter%20above%20was%20what%20we%20had%20for%20lunch%20the%20other%20day...it%20was%20hearty%20,%20healthy%20and%20filling!%20The%20rasam%20was%20very%20flavorful,%20tangy%20and%20mildly%20spicy%20and%20went%20really%20well%20with%20Kerala%20brown%20rice%20and%20some%20Turnip%20greens%20pachadi%20with%20some%20pickle%20and%20papad,%20lipsmacking%20good!!%20You%20might%20wanna%20stir%20the%20rasam%20before%20serving%20as%20all%20the%20peppery%20goodness%20will%20settle%20to%20the%20bottom%20:-)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIsn't%20it%20weird%20how%20some%20of%20my%20recipes%20turn%20up%20with%20these%20unique%20abbreviations%20like%20CCC%20for%20my%20Citrus%20Checkerboard%20Cake%20and%20now%20RRR%20for%20Red%20Radish%20Rasam...LOL!%20;-)%20Now%20on%20to%20my%20recipe!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ERed%20Radish%20Rasam%20Recipe%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EYou'll%20need%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ERed%20Radishes%20-%205-6%20(washed%20and%20thinly%20sliced)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhole%20corriander%20seeds%20-%202%20tblsp%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhole%20Peppercorns%20-%202%20tblsp%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDry%20Red%20chillies%20%20-%203-4%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDirections:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E1.%20Using%20a%20mortar%20pestle%20,%20grind%20the%20corriander%20seeds%20and%20peppercorns%20coarsely.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E2.%20Again%20using%20the%20mortal%20pestle,%20crush%20the%20garlic%20cloves.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E3.%20Heat%20oil%20in%20a%20kadai%20and%20add%20the%20ground%20corriander%20seeds,%20peppercorns,%20dry%20Red%20Chillies%20and%20garlic%20cloves%20and%20saute%20on%20medium%20heat%20for%20few%20minutes.%20(Another%20method%20is%20to%20dry%20roast%20the%20whole%20corriander%20seeds,%20peppercorns%20and%20Dry%20red%20Chillies%20and%20then%20grind%20them%20to%20a%20paste%20with%20some%20water%20and%20then%20add%20this%20paste%20in%20the%20oil%20and%20saute%20with%20garlic.)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E4.%20Add%20the%20tomato%20and%20cover%20and%20cook%20until%20the%20tomato%20has%20softened,%20then%20mash%20the%20tomato%20into%20a%20pulp.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E5.%20Add%20the%20sliced%20Turnips,%20Tamarind%20water%20Turmeric%20powder%20,%20Rasam%20powder%20(optional),%20Salt%20%20and%20some%20extra%20water%20if%20you%20prefer%20and%20let%20it%20come%20to%20a%20boil%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E6.%20Finally%20turn%20off%20the%20heat,%20garnish%20with%20some%20Corriander%20leaves%20and%20serve%20Hot!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20always%20prefer%20to%20just%20drink%20the%20Rasam%20as%20a%20soup%20:-)%20So%20I%20just%20kept%20aside%20a%20glass%20all%20for%20myself.%20The%20warmth%20from%20the%20corriander,%20peppercorns%20and%20chilly%20and%20the%20mild%20tang%20from%20the%20tomato%20&%20tamarind%20wa,%20the%20lovely%20flavor%20from%20the%20Garlic...mmmm,%20there's%20nothing%20that%20you%20won't%20like%20about%20this%20soup%20:-).%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI'm%20sure%20many%20of%20you%20prepare%20Rasam%20at%20home,%20why%20don't%20you%20share%20your%20preparation%20styles?%20It%20would%20be%20great%20for%20me%20as%20well%20as%20others%20to%20know.%20Either%20leave%20a%20comment%20here%20or%20else%20at%20my%20facebook%20page.%20Let's%20talk%20Rasam%20:-)%20Thanks%20in%20advance%20:-)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E-Manju%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
