%20and%20then%20I've%20tried%20it%20again%20later%20and%20loved%20it%20(like%20mushrooms.)%20I%20tried%20ginger%20snaps%20again%20this%20week.%20I'm%20sorry,%20no.%20I%20even%20tried%20chocolate-covered%20crystalized%20ginger%20because%20it%20sounded%20cool.%20It%20was%20too%20strong%20for%20me,%20but%20way%20better%20than%20those%20crap%20cookie%20things.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHowever,%20I%20tried%20a%20friend's%20gingerbread%20once,%20and%20it%20was%20good.%20So%20I%20decided%20a%20couple%20of%20weeks%20ago%20that%20I%20need%20to%20make%20some%20of%20my%20own.%20After%20a%20bit%20of%20searching%20on%20my%20favorite%20recipe%20bloggers,%20I%20found%20it.%20Smitten%20kitchen%20finds%20them%20for%20me%20again!%20One%20of%20the%20things%20that%20told%20me%20I%20had%20to%20try%20it%20is%20that%20she%20said%20she%20didn't%20know%20she%20liked%20gingerbread%20before%20this%20one.%20And%20it%20has%20Guinness%20in%20it.%20Ok,%20it%20can%20use%20any%20stout.%20Next%20time%20I'll%20go%20for%20Young's%20Double%20Chocolate%20stout.%20(mmmmm)%20It%20gets%20brought%20to%20a%20boil%20for%20a%20few%20minutes,%20so%20I'm%20fairly%20certain%20any%20actual%20alcohol%20content%20evaporates,%20making%20it%20100%25%20safe%20to%20serve%20to%20all%20ages.%20For%20those%20of%20you%20non-alcoholers,%20others%20suggested%20coke.%20Please%20try%20it%20(please,%20seriously!!)%20and%20tell%20me%20how%20it%20turns%20out.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20is%20a%20splurge%20more%20for%20the%20time%20than%20the%20nutrition%20-%20it%20has%20a%20relatively%20low%20amount%20of%20oil,%20but%20the%20sugar%20likely%20makes%20up%20for%20it.%20And%20don't%20think%20you%20can%20only%20make%20this%20at%20Christmas,%20as%20everyone%20here%20loved%20it.%20I%20think%20we%20went%20through%20about%2040%20pieces%20in%2030%20minutes.%20I%20reserved%203%20pieces%20just%20to%20get%20to%20try%20it%20the%20next%20day%20(when%20I%20had%20the%20time%20to%20snap%20a%20pic,%20too),%20since%20she%20said%20it%20ages%20well.%20Mmm.%20The%20pic%20is%20mine,%20but%20I%20am%20cutting%20and%20pasting%20the%20recipe%20exactly%20because%20it%20was%20perfect.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EGrammercy%20Tavern's%20Gingerbread%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EServes:%20about%2020%20if%20the%20pieces%20are%20real-sized%20Time:%20about%2030%20minutes,%20plus%2050%20minutes%20to%20bake%20and%2010%20minutes%20to%20cool%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPreheat%20oven%20to%20350%C2%B0F.%20Generously%20butter%20bundt%20pan%20and%20dust%20with%20flour,%20knocking%20out%20excess.%20(She%20is%20not%20kidding%20about%20this.%20I%20used%20a%20nonstick%20pan%20with%20a%20butter/flour%20spray%20and%20still%20lost%20a%20chunk%20of%20cake.%20I%20will%20be%20more%20generous%20next%20time.)%20[Beki's%20note%20-%20that's%20from%20SK,%20I%20heavily%20buttered%20&%20floured%20a%20super%20long%20loaf%20pan%20and%20only%20lost%20a%20little%20in%20the%20center,%20but%20it%20could%20have%20been%20due%20to%20my%20impatience%20with%20the%20cooling.]%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBring%20stout%20and%20molasses%20to%20a%20boil%20in%20a%20large%20saucepan%20and%20remove%20from%20heat.%20Whisk%20in%20baking%20soda,%20then%20cool%20to%20room%20temperature.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESift%20together%20flour,%20baking%20powder,%20and%20spices%20in%20a%20large%20bowl.%20Whisk%20together%20eggs%20and%20sugars.%20Whisk%20in%20oil,%20then%20molasses%20mixture.%20Add%20to%20flour%20mixture%20and%20whisk%20until%20just%20combined.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPour%20batter%20into%20bundt%20pan%20and%20rap%20pan%20sharply%20on%20counter%20to%20eliminate%20air%20bubbles.%20Bake%20in%20middle%20of%20oven%20until%20a%20tester%20comes%20out%20with%20just%20a%20few%20moist%20crumbs%20adhering,%20about%2050%20minutes.%20Cool%20cake%20in%20pan%20on%20a%20rack%205%20minutes.%20Turn%20out%20onto%20rack%20and%20cool%20completely.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EServe%20cake,%20dusted%20with%20confectioners%20sugar,%20with%20whipped%20cream.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDo%20ahead:%20This%20gingerbread%20is%20better%20if%20made%20a%20day%20ahead.%20It%20will%20keep%203%20days,%20covered,%20at%20room%20temperature.%20I%20am%20sure%20it%20will%20keep%20well-wrapped%20in%20the%20freezer%20even%20longer.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
