This is a great basic scone recipe. They are easy to make and can be modified with any additions you like. I like to serve them with lemon curd, sweetened whipped cream, or if you can find it, it's great with clotted cream.

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour (sifted) plus more for kneading.
  • 1 Tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup sugar plus more for the top of scones
  • 3/4 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 1/4 cups heavy cream
  • 3 tablspoons butter, melted

Direcciones

  1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
  2. Sift together flour, baking powder, salt and sugar. Toss together with a fork to mix thoroughly. Mix in the chocolate chips (or any dried fruit - cranberries or blueberries are good). Pour in the cream and mix with the fork until the mixture holds together. Transfer onto a floured work surface and sprinkle lighlty with flour. Knead the dough 10 times, pushing it away from you with the heel of your hand. Pat into a 9 inch circle. Brush with melted butter and sprinkle with sugar. Cut the dough into 12 pie shaped wedges and transfer to baking sheet. Bake until the tops are golden brown, 15-17 mins. Serve warm with sweetened whipped cream.
  3. These are also good if you substitute the chocolate chips with dried cranberries/blueberries and 2 tablespoons of lemon zest or orange zest
