%20and%20then%20adding%20the%20batter.%20He%20then%20transferred%20the%20cobbler%20into%20the%20oven%20and%20baked%20it%20until%20it%20was%20nice%20and%20bubbly.%20It%20was%20so%20delicious!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20wish%20dad%20was%20still%20around%20to%20make%20his%20cobbler.%20And%20to%20share%20the%20fun%20moments%20that%20happen%20in%20life.%20To%20see%20how%20far%20I%E2%80%99ve%20come.%20To%20see%20my%20brother%20and%20his%20kids.%20Unfortunately,%20dad%20passed%20away%20in%202005,%20when%20I%20was%2023%20and%20my%20brother%2021,%20due%20to%20cancer.%20Yea,%20I%E2%80%99ll%20say%20it.%20Cancer%E2%80%99s%20a%20bitch.%20It%20was%20a%20pretty%20crappy%20thing%20to%20watch%20someone%20go%20through.%20I%20am%20sure%20I%20will%20do%20another%20post%20on%20this%20and%20go%20into%20it%20in%20more%20detail%20one%20day%20soon.%20But%20for%20now,%20I%20will%20just%20end%20the%20cancer%20tidbit%20with%20this:%20I%20remember%20the%20good%20times%20with%20dad%20and%20refrain%20from%20dwelling%20on%20the%20cancer.%20Yes,%20I%20still%20remember%20the%20cancer%20and%20I%20don%E2%80%99t%20deny%20it%20happening.%20It%20happened.%20But%20why%20dwell%20on%20the%20bad%20things?%20You%20can%20only%20move%20forward,%20right?%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESo%20back%20to%20happy%20things,%20like%20cobbler.%20I%20plan%20on%20making%20something%20similar%20to%20dad%E2%80%99s%20peach%20cobbler%20one%20day.%20I%20don%E2%80%99t%20have%20and%20exact%20recipe%20for%20what%20he%20did%20but%20I%20am%20sure%20I%20can%20come%20up%20with%20something%20good!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAbout%20this%20cherry%20cobbler%E2%80%A6%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIt%20does%20look%20good,%20doesn%E2%80%99t%20it?%20Sadly,%20it%20didn%E2%80%99t%20taste%20too%20good.%20And%20it%E2%80%99s%20not%20due%20to%20the%20overall%20recipe.%20The%20batter,%20the%20cherries,%20they%20all%20tasted%20good.%20They%20tasted%20delicious.%20In%20fact,%20I%20was%20tempted%20to%20just%20eat%20the%20batter%20right%20out%20of%20the%20bowl,%20along%20with%20the%20cherries.%20Cause%20you%20know,%20I%E2%80%99m%20a%20sucker%20for%20batters%20and%20cookie%20dough.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20problem%20with%20this%20cobbler%20was%20my%20cast%20iron%20skillet.%20Apparently,%20it%20needed%20to%20be%20seasoned.%20Desperately%20seasoned.%20Unfortunately,%20I%20didn%E2%80%99t%20realize%20that%20until%20AFTER%20I%20baked%20my%20cobbler.%20Lesson%20learned:%20always%20make%20sure%20my%20cast%20iron%20skillet%20is%20seasoned.%20My%20bloggy%20friend%20Julie%20from%20White%20Lights%20on%20Wednesday%20created%20a%20tutorial%20for%20seasoning%20cast%20iron%20skillets.%20You%20can%20find%20it%20here.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESkillet%20Cherry%20Cobbler%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIngredients%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EInstructions%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIn%20a%20medium%20glass%20bowl,%20combine%20cherries,%201%20tbsp%20all%20purpose%20flour,%202%20tbsp%20sugar%20and%20sherry.%20Set%20aside.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIn%20a%20mixing%20bowl,%20whisk%20together%20the%201%201/4%20C%20flour,%201/4%20C%20sugar,%20baking%20powder%20and%20salt.%20Cut%20in%20the%20butter.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhisk%20together%20the%20soy%20milk%20and%20vanilla%20extract.%20Pour%20over%20the%20flour%20mixture%20and%20mix%20with%20a%20spoon.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPlace%201%20tbsp%20vegan%20butter%20into%20a%2010%20inch%20cast%20iron%20skillet/%20Place%20in%20a%20375%20degree%20oven%20until%20the%20butter%20is%20melted.%20Swirl%20the%20pan%20to%20coat%20it.%20Be%20sure%20to%20use%20a%20pot%20holder%20so%20you%20don't%20burn%20yourself!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPour%20the%20batter%20into%20the%20skillet.%20Spoon%20the%20cherries%20over%20the%20batter%20(if%20they%20contain%20a%20lot%20of%20liquid,%20drain%20off%20some%20of%20the%20liquid%20before%20adding%20to%20the%20batter)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBake%20at%20375%20for%2020-25%20minutes%20or%20until%20a%20toothpick%20entered%20into%20a%20thick%20part%20of%20batter%20comes%20out%20clean.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETurn%20on%20the%20broiler%20to%20high.%20Broil%20until%20the%20top%20is%20just%20slightly%20browned.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAllow%20to%20cool%20before%20serving.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E2.2%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Ehttp://www.thisgalcooks.com/2013/08/02/skillet-cherry-cobbler/%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMore%20recipes%20from%20This%20Gal%20Cooks%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
