.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd%20believe%20it%20or%20not....they%20are%20among%20the%20easiest%20snacks%20to%20make%20at%20home.%20Had%20I%20known%20they%20were%20so%20easy...I%20would've%20made%20them%20ages%20ago!!%20(They've%20been%20on%20my%20list%20of%20fun%20things%20to%20try%20for%20years)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20recipe%20I%20used%20is%20Alton%20Brown's%20and%20can%20be%20found%20-----%3E%20here%20%3C-----%20if%20you%20want%20to%20check%20out%20the%20original.%20Although%20I%20did%20not%20change%20the%20recipe,%20I%20did%20add%20a%20minor%20step.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESoft%20Pretzels%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIn%20a%20large%20bowl,%20combine%20the%20lukewarm%20water%20with%20the%20sugar%20and%20salt,%20then%20sprinkle%20the%20yeast%20on%20top.%20Set%20aside%20for%205%20minutes%20at%20which%20time%20the%20yeast%20will%20have%20started%20to%20foam%20a%20bit.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPour%20in%20the%20flour%20and%20butter%20and%20mix%20until%20well%20combined.%20Pour%20out%20onto%20a%20smooth%20surface%20(I%20found%20that%20I%20did%20not%20need%20to%20dust%20the%20surface%20with%20flour%20as%20the%20dough%20did%20not%20stick.%20If%20you%20find%20that%20it's%20sticking%20to%20your%20surface,%20dust%20slightly%20but%20try%20not%20to%20use%20too%20much.%20You%20don't%20want%20too%20much%20flour%20added%20to%20your%20dough).%20Knead%20the%20dough%20until%20smooth.%20This%20will%20take%205%20-%2010%20minutes.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20is%20not%20considered%20smooth...%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESee%20the%20difference?%20Now%20it's%20ready%20for%20the%20next%20phase.%20Clean%20the%20bowl%20you%20had%20mixed%20it%20all%20in,%20dry%20it%20and%20oil%20it.%20Place%20your%20nice%20smooth%20ball%20into%20the%20bowl%20and%20cover%20with%20plastic%20wrap.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELet%20it%20sit%20in%20a%20draft%20free%20place%20in%20your%20kitchen%20and%20allow%20to%20rise%20for%20about%2050%20-%2055%20minutes.%20At%20which%20point%20your%20dough%20has%20doubled%20in%20size%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ENiiiiiiiice!%20It's%20time%20to%20get%20rolling!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPreheat%20your%20oven%20to%20450'F.%20Line%202%20cookie%20sheets%20with%20parchment%20paper%20and%20lightly%20grease%20the%20parchment%20paper%20with%20vegetable%20oil.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIn%20a%20large%20pot%20or%20stock%20pot,%20bring%20the%2010%20cups%20of%20water%20and%20the%20baking%20soda%20to%20a%20rolling%20boil.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhile%20the%20water%20is%20heating.....lightly%20grease%20your%20counter%20space%20where%20you'll%20be%20working%20the%20dough.%20Divide%20the%20dough%20into%208%20equal%20pieces.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ERoll%20each%20piece%20into%20a%2024%22%20long%20rope.%20I%20think%20that%20was%20the%20most%20challenging%20part%20for%20me.%20My%20ropes%20kept%20springing%20back.%20I%20probably%20should've%20let%20the%208%20balls%20rest%20a%20few%20minutes%20before%20working%20them%20so%20much.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnyways....now%20that%20you%20have%20the%20ropes%20made,%20shape%20them%20into%20pretzels%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOr%20some%20other%20shape.....My%20youngest%20daughter%20was%20helping%20me%20out%20and%20is%20never%20one%20to%20remain%20%22in%20the%20box%22.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPlace%20the%20pretzels%20on%20your%20prepared%20baking%20sheets.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ENow....your%20water%20should%20be%20boiling%20like%20crazy.%20If%20not.....it%20will%20be%20soon.%20Once%20it%20is,%20gently%20and%20carefully%20place%20one%20pretzel%20in%20the%20water%20and%20boil%20for%2030%20seconds,%20carefully%20flipping%20it%20over%20halfway%20through%20the%20process.%20Using%20a%20slotted%20spoon,%20remove%20the%20pretzel%20from%20the%20water%20and%20return%20to%20the%20baking%20sheets.%20Repeat%20with%20the%20remaining%20pretzels,%20one%20at%20a%20time.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETake%20your%20egg%20wash%20and%20brush%20over%20the%20tops...then%20sprinkle%20with%20course%20salt.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBake%20for%20about%2012%20-%2014%20minutes%20or%20until%20a%20deep%20golden%20brown.%20Allow%20to%20cool%20on%20a%20cooling%20rack%20for%20a%20few%20minutes%20before%20eating.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOnce%20cooled%20slightly....chow%20down.%20Or,%20if%20you%20must....break%20out%20the%20mustard.%20Me?%20I%20liberally%20applied%20melted%20garlic%20butter.%20And%20had%20a%20little%20lot%20on%20the%20side%20for%20dipping.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20recipe%20made%208.%20They%20were%20devoured%20within%20a%20few%20hours.%20They%20were%20in%20the%20oven%20after%20dinner....and%20by%20midnight....poof!%20They%20had%20vanished.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELet%20me%20just%20tell%20you%20about%20a%20personal%20observation....when%20I%20bit%20into%20one,%20fresh%20out%20of%20the%20oven...still%20warm%20and%20soft....it%20reminded%20me%20of%20salty%20soft%20bread.%20I%20was%20a%20bit%20disappointed%20at%20first.%20BUT....after%20they%20cooled%20a%20bit%20more...to%20room%20temperature,%20the%20pretzel%20flavor%20shined%20through%20and%20I%20was%20thrilled.%20And%20relieved.%20I%20didn't%20want%20Sir%20Sportsalot,%20the%20lover%20of%20all%20pretzels,%20to%20be%20unimpressed.%20I%20needn't%20have%20worried.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ENow%20that%20I%20think%20of%20it...I%20just%20may%20have%20to%20make%20another%20batch%20today.%20After%20all,%20it%20is%20Father's%20Day.%20And%20I've%20been%20pondering%20the%20idea%20of%20a%20nacho%20version.%20Jalapenos%20chopped%20up%20and%20added%20to%20the%20dough%20during%20the%20mixing%20process%20and%20then%20maybe%20some%20shredded%20cheddar%20sprinkled%20on%20top%20just%20before%20baking.%20Aaaaand%20for%20that%20added%20gooeyness....a%20bowl%20of%20nacho%20cheese%20dip%20on%20the%20side.%20How's%20that%20for%20a%20Father's%20Day%20snack?%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHappy%20Father's%20Day%20to%20all%20the%20dads%20out%20there.%20Now%20grab%20a%20beer%20and%20a%20pretzel%20and%20have%20a%20great%20day!%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
