%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThey're%20so%20easy%20to%20make,%20using%20techniques%20very%20similar%20to%20that%20of%20making%20biscuits%20(a%20scone%20type%20of%20quick%20bread,%20very%20popular%20in%20North%20America,%20not%20a%20cookie!)%20But%20that%20is%20where%20the%20similarity%20ends!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EScones%20are%20a%20lot%20lighter,%20and%20in%20many%20cases%20sweeter,%20often%20varying%20between%20cake-like%20and%20cookie-like%20in%20texture%20.%20.%20.%20but%20then%20again%20there%20are%20savoury%20versions%20that%20are%20more%20biscuit-like.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20guess%20there%20is%20no%20definitive%20way%20to%20describe%20a%20scone%20except%20to%20say%20that%20they%20are%20delectably%20delicious%20and%20the%20perfect%20thing%20to%20munch%20on%20with%20a%20hot%20cup%20of%20tea%20in%20the%20middle%20of%20the%20afternoon.%20(My%20choice%20is%20a%20lovely%20herbal%20tea,%20but%20I%20have%20friends%20that%20love%20Earl%20Grey%20and%20I%20do%20love%20the%20smell%20of%20a%20nice%20hot%20cup%20of%20Earl%20Grey.)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhatever%20your%20poison%20.%20.%20.%20a%20cup%20of%20something%20hot%20and%20a%20plate%20with%20a%20warm%20scone%20on%20it%20just%20can't%20be%20beat%20on%20any%20occasion.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EToday%20I%20thought%20I%20would%20try%20some%20dried%20sour%20cherries,%20white%20chocolate%20and%20flaked%20almonds%20in%20a%20scone%20.%20.%20.%20three%20wonderful%20flavours%20that%20go%20so%20very%20well%20together.%20The%20sour%20cherries%20help%20to%20cut%20the%20sweetness%20of%20the%20white%20chocolate%20that%20can%20sometimes%20be%20a%20bit%20cloying%20and%20the%20flaked%20almonds%20added%20a%20delightful%20bit%20of%20crunch.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAll%20in%20all%20I'd%20say%20these%20are%20da%20bomb!!%20Definitely%20repeatable!%20These%20are%20going%20in%20my%20success%20file%20of%20things%20I%20have%20conjured%20up!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E*Sour%20Cherry,%20White%20Chocolate%20and%20Almond%20Scones*%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMakes%208%20wedges%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECherries,%20white%20chocolate%20and%20almonds%20.%20.%20.%20the%20holy%20trinity%20of%20sconedom!!%20Seriously,%20these%20are%20fabulous!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPreheat%20the%20oven%20to%20190*C/375*F/%20gas%20mark%205.%20Line%20a%20baking%20sheet%20with%20parchment%20paper.%20Set%20aside.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhisk%20together%20the%20flour,%20sugar,%20baking%20powder%20and%20salt.%20Drop%20in%20the%20butter%20and%20then%20cut%20it%20in%20using%20a%20pastry%20blender%20or%20two%20round%20bladed%20knives,%20until%20the%20mixture%20resembles%20coarse%20crumbs.%20Whisk%20together%20the%20cream,%20egg%20and%20extracts.%20Add%20all%20at%20once%20to%20the%20flour%20mixture,%20mixing%20it%20all%20in%20well%20and%20kneading%20until%20it%20is%20well%20combined.%20Lightly%20knead%20in%20the%20chocolate%20chips,%20cherries%20and%20almonds.%20Pat%20out%20with%20lightly%20floured%20hands%20to%20a%209%20inch%20circle.%20Cut%20into%208%20wedges.%20Place%20on%20the%20lined%20baking%20sheet,%20leaving%20some%20space%20in%20between%20each.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBake%20for%2015%20to%2020%20minutes,%20until%20the%20tops%20are%20lightly%20browned.%20Allow%20to%20cool%20on%20the%20pan%20for%20five%20minutes,%20before%20scooping%20off%20with%20a%20spatula%20to%20a%20wire%20rack%20to%20finish%20cooling.%20Store%20in%20an%20airtight%20container.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ENote%20-%20if%20you%20want%20your%20scones%20to%20have%20soft%20sides,%20place%20the%20whole%20round%20onto%20the%20baking%20sheet,%20and%20cut%20into%20wedges%20there,%20leaving%20them%20together%20and%20baking%20them%20as%20a%20whole.%20Cut%20them%20apart%20again%20once%20they%20come%20out%20of%20the%20oven%20with%20a%20serrated%20knife.%20Me%20.%20.%20.%20I%20love%20crunchy%20sides,%20and%20so%20I%20bake%20them%20apart!!%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
