%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELunchtime%20at%20a%20state%20fair%20is%20nothing%20if%20not%20a%20world%20of%20possibilities,%20and%20not%20all%20of%20those%20possibilities%20are%20deep-fried.%20Sometimes,%20you%20can%20find%20something%20interesting%20where%20you%20least%20expect%20it.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAs%20an%20example,%20we%20were%20passing%20through%20a%20section%20of%20the%20Big%20E%20fairgrounds%20on%20our%20way%20elsewhere,%20when%20Lynnafred%20stopped%20dead%20in%20her%20tracks,%20eyes%20wide.%20She%20was%20gazing%20at%20a%20cinnamon%20bun%20concession%20as%20she%20said,%20%22Dad.%20Pulled%20pork%20stuffed%20corn%20cake.%20It%20looks...terrifying.%22%20%20Terrifying%20things%20are%20often%20rewarding,%20though,%20so%20we%20approached%20for%20a%20closer%20look.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EEach%20Pulled%20Pork%20Stuffed%20Corn%20Cake%20starts%20with%20a%20big%20scoop%20of%20sweet%20corn%20cake%20divoted%20down%20in%20the%20center%20to%20form%20a%20well.%20This%20is%20topped%20with%20a%20scoop%20of%20cole%20slaw,%20then%20piled%20high%20with%20slow-cooked%20pulled%20pork%20and%20squirted%20over%20with%20a%20big%20dose%20of%20Sweet%20Baby%20Ray's%20barbecue%20sauce.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhen%20I%20ordered,%20I%20asked%20that%20the%20slaw%20be%20put%20on%20the%20side,%20because%20I'm%20deeply%20suspicious%20of%20cole%20slaw%20that%20is%20not%20of%20my%20own%20creation%20lest%20it%20ruin%20the%20overall%20enjoyability%20of%20the%20dish.%20My%20suspicions%20were,%20however,%20unwarranted.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EEach%20of%20the%20components%20of%20the%20pulled%20pork%20stuffed%20corn%20cake%20are%20very%20good:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20cole%20slaw%20is%20mostly%20slivered%20cabbage%20with%20a%20small%20amount%20of%20carrot,%20very%20little%20sugar,%20and%20a%20healthy%20shot%20of%20horseradish,%20making%20for%20a%20more%20savory%20than%20sweet%20slaw.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20pulled%20pork%20is%20very%20tender%20and%20nicely%20done,%20though%20it%20is%20a%20little%20on%20the%20light%20side%20when%20it%20comes%20to%20smoke%20flavoring.%20I%20have%20a%20feeling%20that%20it's%20done%20in%20an%20oven%20rather%20than%20in%20a%20barbecue%20pit,%20but%20I'm%20not%20going%20to%20complain%20because%20it's%20moist%20and%20porky%20and%20I'm%20eating%20it%20at%20a%20state%20fair,%20not%20at%20Little%20Bubba's%20%20BBQ%20Pit%20somewhere.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20whole%20pile%20is%20topped%20with%20Sweet%20%20Baby%20Ray's%20barbecue%20sauce,%20which%20isn't%20a%20super%20premium%20homemade%20sauce,%20but%20it%20isn't%20totally%20heinous.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESo,%20what%20do%20you%20get%20when%20you%20take%20four%20kinda%20ordinary%20ingredients%20and%20combine%20them%20on%20a%20paper%20tray?%20%20You%20get%20magic%20is%20what.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20overall%20effect%20is%20just%20awesome.%20%20Every%20component%20of%20the%20dish%20works%20with%20the%20other%20parts%20in%20a%20way%20that%20makes%20them%20better%20than%20they%20are%20alone.%20Even%20the%20cole%20slaw%20was%20a%20great%20addition,%20because%20the%20sharp%20horseradish%20modulates%20the%20sweetness%20of%20the%20BBQ%20sauce%20and%20corn%20cake.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIf%20you're%20looking%20for%20a%20break%20from%20the%20relentless%20parade%20of%20fried%20fair%20food,%20you%20could%20do%20a%20lot%20worse%20than%20this.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPulled%20Pork%20Stuffed%20Corn%20Cake.%20%20$10,%20Sold%20by%20Scirrotto's%20Cinnamon%20City%20at%20the%202012%20Big%20E,%20at%20the%20southwest%20corner%20of%20the%20Young%20Building.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
