%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20first%20time%20I%20ever%20tasted%20stuffed%20karelas%20was%20when%20we%20visited%20my%20mom's%20second%20brother%20and%20family%20in%20Hyderabad.%20Our%20aunt%20made%20this%20dish%20for%20dinner%20one%20day%20and%20we%20all%20enjoyed%20it%20a%20lot..%20at%20that%20time%20however,%20I%20wasn't%20too%20fond%20of%20this%20bitter%20vegetable.%20So%20though%20I%20really%20liked%20what%20my%20aunt%20made,%20I%20would%20never%20had%20bothered%20to%20make%20it...%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAll%20that%20changed%20when%20I%20was%20pregnant...%20guess%20what%20I%20craved%20most%20at%20that%20time...???%20yep...%20bitter%20gourd...%20I%20had%20severe%20'morning%20sickness'%20that%20lasted%20the%20whole%20day,%20for%20the%20first%204%20months...%20at%20the%20least%20provocation%20I%20had%20to%20run%20for%20the%20loo..%20anything%20from%20the%20smell%20of%20rice%20to%20the%20sound%20of%20daily%20TV%20serials%20..!!!%20but%20I%20would%20drool%20at%20the%20smell%20of%20bitter%20gourd%20cooking%20and%20I%20sometimes%20would%20just%20saute%20it%20with%20a%20little%20onions%20and%20tomato%20and%20have%20it%20semi-cooked...%20my%20husband%20never%20could%20understand%20that..%20he%20told%20me%20normal%20people%20would%20puke%20at%20smelling%20half-cooked%20bitter%20gourd%20and%20there%20I%20was,%20in%20my%20delicate%20condition,%20shoveling%20it%20down%20like%20it%20was%20the%20tastiest%20thing%20in%20the%20world..!!!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFour%20years%20later,%20I%20still%20love%20bitter%20gourd,%20and%20if%20it%20is%20fried%20to%20cinders,%20even%20my%20husband%20likes%20it%20with%20curd%20and%20rice.%20When%20I%20bought%20the%20tiny%20karelas,%20I%20had%20decided%20to%20try%20stuffing%20them..but%20when%20i%20checked%20for%20recipes,%20many%20of%20them%20were%20very%20complicated,%20so%20I%20just%20read%20them%20and%20then%20decided%20to%20go%20ahead%20and%20give%20it%20my%20own%20twist%20as%20I%20normally%20do%20to%20most%20of%20my%20cooking.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBitter%20gourd/%20karelas%20/paavakka%20-%206%20small%20ones%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWash%20them%20well,%20scrape%20all%20the%20spines%20slowly%20with%20a%20knife%20and%20keep%20it%20aside%20to%20include%20in%20the%20stuffing.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESlit%20one%20side%20of%20the%20karelas.%20Scrape%20off%20the%20seeds%20inside.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHeat%20oil%20in%20a%20pan,%20saute%20onions,%20then%20add%20the%20tomatoes%20and%20saute%20till%20the%20oil%20comes%20out.%20Add%20the%20scraped%20bitter%20gourd%20spines,%20chilli,%20turmeric%20and%20jeera%20powders,%20saute%20and%20cook%20for%205%20minutes.Add%20the%20mashed%20potatoes,%20the%20dhania%20leaves%20and%20the%20salt%20to%20taste.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ENow%20stuff%20the%20bitter%20gourds%20and%20shallow%20fry%20in%20a%20non-stick%20pan%20till%20brown%20on%20all%20sides.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWe%20had%20it%20with%20rice,%20curd%20and%20omelettes.%20They%20will%20be%20great%20with%20chappatis%20too.I%20will%20definitely%20make%20them%20as%20soon%20as%20possible,%20since%20I%20got%20a%20thumbs%20up%20from%20my%20husband%20too...%20!!!%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
