%20next%20year.%20Or%20maybe%20I'll%20just%20get%20mother-in-law%20to%20start%20making%20them%20again.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWant%20to%20have%20the%20same%20fun%20in%20your%20kitchen?%20Here's%20the%20mise%20en%20place.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELooks%20good%20so%20far.%20%20The%20sugar,%20cane%20syrup,%20water,%20vinegar,%20and%20salt%20have%20all%20been%20added.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI'm%20cooking%20away,%20dissolving%20the%20sugar%20and%20testing%20the%20temp%20to%20check%20for%20light%20crack%20(about%20270).%20%20Only%20my%20thermometer%20remains%20stuck%20at%20about%20200%20degrees.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20decide%20to%20guess.%20%20Which%20was%20a%20bad%20thing%20to%20do.%20%20I%20cut%20off%20the%20heat%20and%20added%20the%20butter%20and%20baking%20soda.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPoured%20the%20mixture%20over%20the%20popped%20popcorn.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd%20buttered%20up%20while%20the%20popcorn%20and%20syrup%20cool%20off%20enough%20to%20handle.%20%20But%20not%20so%20much%20that%20it%20started%20to%20set.%20%20Not%20that%20I%20had%20to%20worry%20about%20that.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EToss,%20toss,%20toss.%20I'm%20still%20naively%20optimistic%20here.%20%20It'll%20still%20work.%20%20It'll%20still%20work.%20%20It'll%20still%20work...I%20think?%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFat%20chance.%20%20This%20is%20what%20happens%20when%20you%20guess%20during%20candy%20making.%20%20Close%20your%20ears.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20Husband%20steps%20in%20to%20stop%20the%20madness.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDon't%20let%20this%20picture%20fool%20you.%20%20All%20you%20have%20to%20do%20is%20poke%20one%20to%20know%20that%20this%20is%20just%20sweet,%20wet%20globs%20of%20popcorn.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECombine%20the%20first%205%20ingredients%20and%20stir%20until%20sugar%20dissolves.%20%20Cook%20mixture%20until%20it%20reaches%20light%20crack%20stage%20(about%20270%20degrees%20F).%20%20Remove%20from%20heat%20and%20ad%20butter%20and%20baking%20soda.%20%20Stir%20well.%20%20Pour%20over%20popcorn.%20%20Butter%20your%20hands%20and%20form%20into%20balls.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
