.%20we%20had%20scallions,%20and%20fresh%20ginger,%20and%20some%20noodles%20(more%20on%20that%20later!).%20So,%20this%20was%20basically%20a%20no-cost%20meal.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWe%20started%20by%20roasting%20the%20chicken%20parts%20on%20a%20baking%20sheet,%20then%20simmering%20them%20in%20water%20with%20some%20random%20veggies%20and%20herbs%20we%20had%20laying%20around%20the%20kitchen%20and/or%20garden.%20Carrots,%20oregano,%20etc.%20I%20also%20had%20a%20few%20containers%20of%20homemade%20chicken%20stock%20in%20my%20freezer%20from%20another%20time.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMe%20being%20the%20fool%20for%20Tyler%20Florence%20that%20I%20am,%20I%20called%20Sylvia%20and%20she%20scrounged%20up%20this%20recipe%20(thanks,%20MEF!)%20for%20me.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIt%20was.....okay.%20Sorry,%20Tyler,%20but%20while%20this%20is%20a%20good%20starting%20point,%20and%20very%20helpful%20in%20our%20process,%20the%20resulting%20soup%20was%20very.....bland.%20I%20know,%20I%20know,%20egg%20drop%20soup%20is%20not%20traditionally%20a%20show%20stopper,%20but%20I%20had%20higher%20ambitions%20this%20weekend.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESo,%20this%20is%20what%20we%20did.%20After%20we%20brought%20the%20soup%20to%20a%20boil,%20then%20stirred%20in%20the%20egg%20whites%20(by%20the%20way,%20whisk%20those%20puppies%20up%20good%20before%20you%20mix%20them%20in!%20I%20didn%E2%80%99t%20do%20such%20a%20great%20job%20of%20that%20and%20I%20ended%20up%20with%20a%20few%20small%20omelets%20in%20my%20soup!).%20We%20tasted,%20and%20re-seasoned,%20and%20re-seasoned,%20and...well....re-seasoned%20again.%20It%20was%20just....lacking%20something.%20We%20added%20more%20soy%20sauce,%20more%20ginger,%20the%20chicken%20Ginny%20picked%20off%20the%20roasted%20and%20stewed%20chicken%20parts,%20a%20half%20a%20white%20onion%20we%20had%20leftover,%20a%20bunch%20of%20rice%20vinegar,%20and%20a%20teaspoon%20or%20so%20of%20Korean%20red%20pepper%20flake.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAt%20this%20point,%20we%20were%20finally%20happy%20with%20the%20soup,%20and%20I%20am%20thrilled%20to%20be%20eating%20it%20for%20lunch%20today!%20But%20we%20did%20end%20up%20adding%20one%20more%20thing.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESee,%20I%20follow%20Hungry%20Girl,%20and%20she%20is%20a%20HUGE%20fan%20of%20Tofu%20Shiratake%20noodles.%20Do%20you%20have%20any%20idea%20how%20hard%20those%20suckers%20are%20to%20find???%20Ginny%20finally%20ran%20across%20a%20package%20in%20Iowa%20and%20brought%20it%20out%20with%20her%20so%20we%20could%20try%20them.%20Our%20plan%20was%20to%20make%20a%20stir%20fry%20and%20put%20it%20over%20the%20noodles,%20but%20the%20weekend%20got%20away%20from%20us%20and%20we%20didn%E2%80%99t%20get%20that%20meal%20accomplished.%20So,%20after%20rinsing,%20and%20draining,%20and%20drying....and%20rinsing%20some%20more%20(those%20things%20are%20really%20STINKY%20but%20don%E2%80%99t%20be%20put%20off,%20they%20turn%20out%20fine)%20we%20tossed%20them%20in%20the%20soup!%20(This%20is%20where%20I%20admit%20that%20instead%20of%20breaking%20them%20into%20smaller%20pieces,%20we%20left%20them%20whole%20so%20that%20if%20they%20were%20gross,%20it%20would%20be%20easier%20to%20pull%20them%20out%20of%20the%20soup.)%20Those%20noodles%20turned%20out%20to%20be%20a%20really%20tasty%20addition%20to%20the%20soup,%20and%20at%20only%2020%20calories%20a%20serving,%20a%20real%20winner!%20As%20hard%20as%20they%20are%20to%20find%20around%20here,%20I%20figure%20I%20won%E2%80%99t%20be%20likely%20to%20use%20them%20again,%20but%20I%E2%80%99m%20glad%20I%20got%20a%20chance%20to%20try%20them%20at%20least%20this%20one%20time!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHere%20is%20Tyler%E2%80%99s%20recipe%20for%20the%20soup,%20if%20you%E2%80%99re%20looking%20for%20something%20basic%20to%20start%20with.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAsian%20Egg%20Drop%20Soup%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIngredients%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDirections%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBring%20soup%20stock,%20grated%20ginger%20and%20soy%20sauce%20to%20a%20boil.%20In%20a%20small%20cup,%20make%20a%20slurry%20by%20combining%20the%20cornstarch%20and%202%20tablespoons%20of%20chicken%20stock.%20Stir%20until%20dissolved.%20Slowly%20pour%20in%20the%20cornstarch%20mixture%20while%20stirring%20the%20stock,%20until%20thickened.%20Reduce%20heat%20to%20a%20simmer.%20Pour%20in%20the%20eggs%20slowly%20while%20stirring%20the%20soup%20in%20the%20same%20direction.The%20egg%20will%20spread%20and%20feather.%20Turn%20off%20the%20heat%20and%20add%20the%20green%20onions.%20Season%20with%20salt%20and%20pepper,%20and%20serve.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20is%20my%20submission%20to%20Tyler%20Florence%20Fridays%20this%20week.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
