Thick Hot Chocolate (Champurrado)

Ingredientes

  • 1/4 c. masa harina
  • 3 1/2 c. cool water
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 3 c. lowfat milk
  • 3 ounce sweetened Mexican chocolate flavored with
  •     cinnamon

Direcciones

  1. In a small mixing bowl combine the masa harina with 1/2 c. of water mixing by hand to create a paste. In medium saucepan add in the paste and the remaining 3 c. of water. Bring to boil stirring constantly. Cook slowly for 20 min, the mix will thicken.
  2. While this mix is simmering, in another saucepan add in the lowfat milk and bring to a boil. Add in the chocolate and cook for about 10 min till the chocolate has completely dissolved.
  3. Pour the chocolate into the masa harina mix stirring till well incorporated. With a milinillo or possibly an eggbeater, whisk till a foam forms on top, about 3 min. Serve in a large bowl spooning some of the foam on top.
  4. This recipe yields 4 servings.
