%20were%20working%20with%20the%20delicious%20pig.%20The%20recipes%20involving%20pork%20also%20tend%20to%20be%20the%20ones%20that%20seem%20most%20accessible%20to%20the%20home%20cook.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESo%20there,%20I'm%20not%20being%20biased....not%20totally%20anyways.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFor%20this%20week's%20experiment%20I%20wanted%20to%20take%20on%20another%20of%20the%20elimination%20challenge%20winners.%20So%20Michael%20Voltaggio's%20lettuce%20wrapped,%20asian%20influenced%20braised%20pork%20was%20calling%20my%20name.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20love%20a%20good%20lettuce%20wrap.%20And%20this%20one%20was%20definitely%20not%20a%20disappointment.%20I%20loved%20every%20bite%20of%20it.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOnce%20again%20I%20found%20myself%20questioning%20some%20of%20the%20individual%20components%20of%20the%20dish%20(specifically%20the%20glaze%20for%20the%20pork)%20but%20when%20everything%20came%20together%20it%20was%20perfection.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20should%20really%20just%20suck%20it%20up,%20admit%20that%20my%20palate%20is%20inferior%20and%20stop%20questioning%20the%20professionals!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMichael's%20recipe%20called%20for%20smoked%20slab%20bacon%20which,%20damn%20small%20town%20shopping,%20I%20could%20not%20find%20on%20that%20particular%20day,%20so%20I%20used%20a%20piece%20of%20smoked%20pork%20shoulder%20instead.%20Yummy!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20crushed%20peanuts%20with%20cayenne%20and%20ginger%20were%20a%20delicious%20topping.%20I'm%20not%20a%20big%20fan%20of%20ginger%20but%20paired%20with%20the%20cayenne%20it%20was%20created%20a%20beautiful%20boost%20to%20the%20roasted%20peanut%20flavour.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20ate%20so%20many%20of%20these%20wraps!%20I%20love%20a%20dish%20you%20can%20just%20put%20out%20and%20allow%20people%20to%20put%20together%20as%20they%20choose.%20It's%20definitely%20one%20I%20will%20be%20keeping%20in%20my%20reserves.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWithout%20further%20ado%20I%20give%20you:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBraised%20Pork%20with%20Soy%20Mustard%20Sauce%20and%20Peanuts%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E(adapted%20from%20Michael%20Votaggio's%20Top%20Chef%20recipe%20on%20bravotv.com)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPreheat%20oven%20to%20275%20degrees.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EScore%20the%20skin%20of%20the%20pork%20shoulder%20creating%20cross%20cuts%20along%20the%20surface.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHeat%20sesame%20oil%20in%20large,%20deep%20oven%20safe%20dish%20or%20pot.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESear%20the%20pork%20skin%20side%20down%20in%20sesame%20oil%20until%20browned.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFlip%20pork%20over%20and%20add%20vegetables%20to%20pot.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAdd%20water%20and%201/2%20the%20amount%20of%20powdered%20ginger.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECover%20with%20foil%20and%20place%20in%20oven%20for%202%20hours.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhile%20pork%20is%20cooking%20mix%20soy%20sauce,%20mustards,%20honey,%20mango%20chutney,%20remaining%20powdered%20ginger%20and%201/2%20quart%20water.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBring%20to%20simmer%20and%20allow%20to%20reduce%20for%2020%20minutes.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAdd%20cornstarch%20and%20water%20mixture%20a%20little%20at%20a%20time%20to%20thicken%20liquid%20to%20a%20glaze.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhen%20pork%20has%20cooked,%20remove%20from%20braising%20liquid%20and%20brush%20with%20glaze.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESlice%20pork%20into%20thin%20pieces.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMix%20crushed%20peanuts%20with%20cayenne%20and%20ginger%20powder%20to%20taste.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESeparate%20leaves%20of%20romaine.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETo%20Eat%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPlace%20slices%20of%20pork%20in%20romaine%20leaf.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESpoon%20more%20glaze%20over%20top.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESprinkle%20peanuts%20on%20top.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20served%20everything%20as%20pictured,%20with%20a%20bowl%20of%20the%20glaze%20on%20the%20side%20to%20add%20as%20wanted.%20Casual,%20delicious%20dining.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
