%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWell,%20in%20our%20house,%20that%20makes%20total%20sense,%20since%20my%20parents%20are%20from%20Cincinnati%20(or%20at%20least%20spent%20a%20good%20chunk%20of%20their%20lives%20there).%20So,%20being%20the%20sentimental%20old%20fool%20that%20I%E2%80%99m%20growing%20into,%20I%20couldn%E2%80%99t%20resist%20this%20copy%20when%20I%20ran%20across%20it%20on%20PaperbackSwap%20recently.%20I%E2%80%99ve%20never%20read%20the%20book,%20but%20I%20do%20own%20a%20copy%20now.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20all%20came%20to%20mind%20because%20this%20weekend%20I%20was%20doing%20something%20else%20very%20%22Cincinnati%22.%20A%20few%20weeks%20ago,%20the%20hubs%20and%20I%20were%20taking%20in%20a%20little%20FoodNetwork%20and%20Guy%20Fieri,%20(who%20I%20normally%20enjoy%20quite%20a%20bit)and,%20frankly,%20well,%20he%20pissed%20me%20off.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESee,%20there%20is%20this%20wonderful%20thing%20in%20the%20Cincinnati%20area%20called%20Cincinnati%20Chili.%20Cincinnati%20is%20filled%20with%20chili%20parlors,%20and%20everyone%20has%20their%20favorite%20(mine,%20most%20definitely%20is%20Skyline%20Chili.).%20Cincinnati%20chili%20is%20an%20entirely%20different%20breed%20of%20chili.%20It%20is%20neither%20chunky,%20thick,%20nor%20spicy.%20It%20is%20not%20filled%20with%20beans%20and%20vegetables.%20Instead,%20it%20is%20thin%20and%20savory,%20and%20served%20over%20spaghetti.%20That's%20right.%20Spaghetti.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20have%20found%20that%20most%20people%20either%20love%20it%20or%20hate%20it,%20and%20I%20am%20definitely%20a%20lover%20of%20some%20good%20Cincinnati%20Chili.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThat%20being%20said.%20Guy%20Fieri's%20feature%20recipe%20on%20that%20fateful%20day%20a%20few%20weeks%20ago?%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E%22Wierd%20Spaghetti%22%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EYou%20might%20say%20I%20was%20moderately%20offended.%20To%20his%20credit,%20he%20DID%20say%20that%20this%20was%20only%20%22in%20the%20style%20of%20Cincinnati%20Chili%22%20and%20its%20a%20good%20thing%20he%20said%20that,%20because,%20in%20truth,%20it%20wasn't%20even%20in%20the%20same%20family.%20The%20hubs%20was%20watching%20me%20intently,%20because%20he%20knows%20how%20serious%20I%20am%20about%20my%20Cincinnati%20Chili,%20and%20I%20think%20he%20was%20waiting%20for%20my%20head%20to%20start%20spinning%20%22a%20la%20Poltergheist%22.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAside%20from%20what%20I%20considered%20a%20huge%20faux%20pas%20on%20Fieri's%20part,%20it%20did%20put%20me%20in%20the%20mood%20to%20make%20a%20batch%20of%20the%20real%20deal.%20Over%20the%20years,%20I%20have%20been%20tweaking%20a%20recipe%20for%20my%20own%20version;%20still%20lacking%20something%20from%20real%20Skyline%20flavor,%20but%20satisfying%20nonetheless%20when%20I%20am%20craving%20some%20good%20hometown%20flavors.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIf%20you%20are%20a%20Cincinnati%20Chili%20fan,%20you%20know%20that%20there%20is%20a%20very%20specific%20ordering%20process.%20You%20identify%20how%20you%20want%20your%20chili%20by%20indicating%20how%20many%20%22ways%22%20you%20like%20it.%20For%20example,%20in%20true%20Skyline%20fashion,%20I%20take%20mine%20as%20a%20%22three-way%22.%20This%20means:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E1.%20a%20pile%20of%20spaghetti%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E2.%20a%20big%20scoop%20of%20chili%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E3.%20topped%20with%20a%20pile%20of%20shredded%20cheddar.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELike%20so.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThere%20are%20also%20other%20options.%20You%20can%20have%20a%20four-way%20or%20five%20way,%20which%20add%20either%20beans%20or%20onions%20to%20the%20list,%20or%20you%20can%20choose%20a%20chili%20dog.%20If%20you're%20a%20true%20connoisseur,%20you%20will%20slide%20your%20oblong%20dish%20facing%20away%20from%20you,%20which%20makes%20for%20less%20%22splatter%22%20while%20you're%20slurping%20up%20your%20personal%20pile%20of%20happiness.%20(I%20have%20a%20special%20bowl%20at%20home,%20just%20for%20this%20purpose.%20I%20know,%20try%20to%20cover%20up%20your%20%22shocked%22%20face.)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EYes,%20I%20am%20a%20freak.%20This%20I%20know.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd%20although%20I%20know%20that%20chili%20may%20seem%20like%20an%20odd%20choice%20in%20the%20arrid%20savannah%20also%20known%20as%20%22Illinois%20in%20August%22,%20I%20made%20a%20batch%20of%20chili.%20(like%20I%20said...freak.%20old%20news%20here.)%20Although%20my%20recipe%20is%20constantly%20evolving%20(kudos%20to%20my%20Aunt%20Gert,%20who%20gave%20me%20her%20recipe%20to%20start%20from%20many%20years%20ago%20when%20I%20was%20visiting)%20my%20Aunt%20Gert's%20recipe%20is%20one%20I%20can%20always%20fall%20back%20on,%20so%20I%20am%20including%20it%20here.%20If%20I%20ever%20get%20mine%20tweaked%20%22just%20so%22%20I'l%20be%20sure%20to%20post%20it%20as%20well!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECINCINNATI%20CHILI%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E3%20bay%20leaves%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECombine%20all%20ingredients%20in%203%20%C2%BD%20quart%20crock%20pot.%20Cook%20on%20high%20heat%20for%20half%20an%20hour,%20then%20at%20least%20five%20hours%20on%20low%20heat.%20Remove%20spice%20bag.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EServe%20over%20cooked%20spaghetti,%20and%20top%20with%20diced%20onion%20and%20finely%20grated%20cheddar%20or%20longhorn%20cheese.%20Serve%20with%20oyster%20crackers.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20certainly%20can't%20guarantee%20that%20you'll%20like%20Cincinnati%20Chili,%20but%20if%20you%20want%20something%20different,%20give%20this%20a%20shot%20and%20let%20me%20know%20what%20you%20think!%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
