,%20medical%20reform,%20medical%20challenges,%20etc,%20Peter%20and%20I%20have%20two%20constants:%20(1)%20the%20meticulous%20planning,%20execution,%20and%20consumption%20of%20our%20daily%20meals;%20(2)%20cocktails%20at%205%20pm%20while%20we%20watch%20an%20episode%20of%20Jeopardy%20or%20Millionaire.%20If%20this%20seems%20pedestrian%20or%20prosaic,%20all%20I%20can%20say%20is%20it%20works%20for%20us!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELunch%20is%20usually%20a%20sandwich,%20ranging%20from%20banh%20mi,%20to%20grilled%20ham%20and%20cheese,%20to%20chicken%20or%20tuna%20or%20egg%20salad,%20and%20so%20forth.%20Lunch%20also%20includes%20a%20daily%20mix%20of%20cutup%20fruit%20with%20plain%20yogurt%20as%20a%20dressing.%20Dinner%20will%20include%20a%20protein,%20a%20starch,%20and%20a%20vegetable%20(often%20a%20salad%20these%20days%20with%20remarkably%20resilient%20lettuce%20from%20our%20own%20garden).%20The%20regularity%20of%20substantial%20and%20varied%20meals,%20enjoyed%20in%20the%20preparation%20nearly%20as%20much%20(but%20not%20as%20much)%20as%20in%20the%20eating.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHaving%20bought%20some%20brats%20on%20sale%20at%20Safeway%20a%20few%20days%20ago,%20I%20got%20to%20thinking%20about%20a%20salad%20with%20white%20beans%20(my%20favorites%20of%20which%20are%20called%20Navy%20beans%20and%20come%20in%20cans%20at%20Safeway).%20In%20part%20I%20like%20them%20because%20they%20are%20small.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20sat%20down%20at%20this%20computer%20yesterday%20and%20composed%20the%20following%20recipe.%20Try%20it%20%E2%80%93%20it%E2%80%99s%20superb!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESorry%20there%E2%80%99s%20no%20photo%20%E2%80%93%20the%20one%20I%20took%20at%20the%20dinner%20table%20didn%E2%80%99t%20come%20out%20well.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EStart%20the%20bratwurst.%20I%20use%20a%20Rachel%20Ray%20technique%20for%20this.%20A%20small%20amount%20of%20water%20in%20a%20saut%C3%A9%20pan;%20add%20the%20brats%20and%20cook,%20turning%20occasionally%20until%20the%20water%20has%20evaporated;%20add%20olive%20oil%20or%20butter%20and%20continue%20saut%C3%A9ing%20until%20the%20sausages%20are%20browned%20and%20cooked%20through.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhile%20the%20brats%20cook%20(or%20do%20ahead%20of%20time),%20put%20the%20beans,%20shallot,%20tomato,%20olives,%20garlic,%20salt%20and%20pepper,%20parsley,%20rosemary,%20and%20thyme%20in%20a%20large%20bowl%20and%20toss%20to%20combine.%20In%20a%20small%20bowl,%20whisk%20together%20the%20olive%20oil%20and%20mustard.%20Add%20to%20the%20large%20bowl%20and%20toss%20to%20combine.%20Set%20aside.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWe%20heated%20wide%20bowls%20in%20our%20excellent%20convection%20toaster%20oven,%20served%20up%20the%20bean%20mix%20and%20added%20the%20hot%20sausages%20(after%20cutting%20into%20%C2%BD%E2%80%9D%20pieces).%20The%20result%20is%20basically%20a%20room%20temp%20to%20warm%20salad,%20very%20pleasing%20on%20a%20summer%20evening.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
