%20for%208%20hrs%20and%2045%20minutes%20to%20walk%2026.2%20miles.%20I%20started%20at%2010%20in%20the%20morning%20and%20finished%20LAST%20in%20the%20dark%20but%20I%20NEVER%20gave%20up.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDon%E2%80%99t%20EVER%20let%20anyone%20tell%20you%20that%20because%20you%20are%20a%20fat%20girl%20you%20can%E2%80%99t%20do%20something%20athletic.%20YOU%20CAN!!!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EJust%20six%20months%20ago%20I%20could%20only%20walk%201/4%20of%20a%20mile%20at%20a%20slow%20pace%20before%20having%20to%20sit%20down%20because%20of%20crushing%20back%20pain%20and%20general%20unfitness.%20This%20was%20because%20I%20weight%20had%20crept%20back%20up%20to%20310%20lbs.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOne%20of%20my%20goals%20by%20the%20time%20I%20got%20to%2050%20years%20old%20(I%E2%80%99m%20now%2049)%20was%20to%20do%20a%20Marathon.%20On%20the%20spur%20of%20the%20moment,%20without%20little%20thought%20I%20signed%20my%20daughter%20and%20myself%20up%20as%20it%20was%20not%20only%20a%20huge%20challenge%20but%20it%20was%20for%20Cancer%20Research,%20something%20we%20are%20passionate%20about.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20also%20signed%20my%20daughter%20and%20myself%20up%20to%20Pure%20Gym,%20we%E2%80%99ve%20spent%20more%20bonding%20time%20together%20which%20to%20be%20honest%20I%E2%80%99d%20missed.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAs%20the%20weight%20started%20coming%20off%20the%20back%20pain%20got%20less,%20I%20was%20able%20to%20walk%20for%20longer%20on%20the%20treadmill.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFirst%20it%20was%2010%20minutes%20at%204%20kmh,%20then%20after%20a%20few%20days%2015%20minutes%20then%2020.%20As%20my%20muscles%20began%20to%20get%20stronger%20and%20confidence%20grew%20and%20my%20weight%20continued%20to%20drop%20my%20speed%20went%20up%20to%205%20kmh%20then%205.5%20kmh%20and%20then%20even%206%20for%20short%20periods%20of%20time!%20Once%20I%20could%20walk%20on%20the%20treadmill%20for%20an%20hour%20at%205%20kmh%20we%20began%20going%20for%20long%20walks%20in%20parks%20most%20weekends.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWe%20started%20using%20free%20apps%20like%20Runkeeper%20and%20MapMyWalk%20on%20our%20phones%20to%20track%20our%20distance%20and%20pace.%20Walking%20outside%20is%20harder%20work%20than%20the%20treadmill%20as%20you%20encounter%20different%20types%20of%20terrain%20and%20undulations%20and%20it%E2%80%99s%20fascinating%20to%20see%20afterwards%20what%20you%E2%80%99ve%20achieved%E2%80%A6.%20it%E2%80%99s%20really%20encouraging!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EGoing%20for%20one%20long%20walk%20at%20the%20weekends%20in%20addition%20to%203%20treadmill%20sessions%20at%20the%20gym%20per%20week%20really%20helped%20us%20build%20up%20stamina%20and%20also%20really%20helped%20with%20losing%20weight%20(slowly%20but%20surely).%20It%E2%80%99s%20also%20a%20GREAT%20way%20to%20enjoy%20scenery%20by%20doing%20our%20walking%20in%20the%20various%20free%20parks%20we%20have%20in%20Nottinghamshire%20and%20South%20Yorkshire,%20and%20an%20ideal%20opportunity%20to%20breath%20in%20fresh%20air%20and%20get%20happy%20and%20feel%20the%20sunshine%20on%20our%20skin!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EJust%204%20months%20into%20our%20training%20we%20managed%20to%20do%20a%2015%20mile%20walk%20in%204.5%20hours%20and%20it%20was%20at%20that%20stage%20we%20dared%20to%20hope%20that%20we%20actually%20REALLY%20COULD%20achieve%20the%20Marathon%20goal..%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPart%202%20(coming%20soon)%20%E2%80%93%20Big%20person%20foot%20injuries%20and%20set%20backs%20and%20the%20day%20of%20the%20race!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELike%20Loading...%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ERelated%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
