%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHalftime%20Linguine%20with%20Sun-dried%20Tomatoes,%20Anchovies%20and%20Grana%20Padano%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDo%20you%20have%20a%20movie%20that,%20when%20it%20pops%20up%20while%20browsing%20through%20cable%20channels%20on%20a%20lazy/hot/rainy/whatever%20weekend%20afternoon,%20you%20absolutely%20have%20to%20watch%20it%20even%20though%20you%E2%80%99ve%20seen%20it%20a%20million%20times%20already%20and%20it%E2%80%99s%20not%20going%20to%20be%20nearly%20as%20good%20as%20watching%20your%20copy%20on%20DVD%20because%20they%20have%20to%20edit%20out%20all%20of%20the%20cursing/violence/etc.%20to%20show%20it%20on%20TV%20but%20you%20don%E2%80%99t%20care%20and%20watch%20it%20anyway?%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFor%20me,%20that%20film%20is%20Goodfellas.%20%20No%20matter%20the%20channel%E2%80%93if%20it%E2%80%99s%20on%20and%20I%E2%80%99m%20home,%20I%E2%80%99m%20probably%20watching%20it.%20And%20yelling%20out%20quotes%20as%20they%20pop%20up:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHere%20you%E2%80%99re%20resting?%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ENah%20nah,%20you%20insulted%20him%20a%20little%20bit.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETwo%20cans%E2%80%93two%20big%20cans!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESome%20red%20wine%E2%80%A6OK.%20Now%20we%20can%20eat.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EInto%20the%20oven%20you%E2%80%99ll%20go%20head-first!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%E2%80%99m%20stirrin%E2%80%99%20it,%20I%E2%80%99m%20stirrin%E2%80%99%20it!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPlease%20stop%20feeding%20the%20dog%20from%20the%20table%E2%80%A6%20from%20the%20plate%20on%20top%20of%20it!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHalftime%20Linguine%20with%20Sun-dried%20Tomatoes,%20Anchovies%20and%20Grana%20Padano%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDon%E2%80%99t%20get%20me%20wrong%E2%80%93I%20love%20the%20big%20iconic%20chunks%20of%20dialog%20too,%20but%20I%20think%20what%20makes%20this%20movie%20so%20rewatchable%20for%20me%20are%20the%20little,%20seemingly%20throwaway%20lines%20that%20make%20all%20of%20the%20characters%20a%20little%20more%20human,%20a%20little%20more%20realistic.%20This%20is%20a%20movie%20about%20real%20people,%20after%20all.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20other%20big%20draw%20for%20me?%20All%20of%20that%20glorious,%20glorious%20food.%20The%20scene%20of%20Henry%20and%20Paulie%20cooking%20in%20jail%20is%20my%20all-time%20favorite%20depiction%20of%20the%20act%20of%20cooking%20on-screen,%20and%20I%20can%20tell%20you%20that%20Michael%20definitely%20nicked%20his%20fingers%20a%20few%20times%20when%20trying%20to%20slice%20cloves%20of%20garlic%20that%20thinly%20when%20we%20were%20in%20college%20and%20making%20a%20lot%20of%20red%20sauces:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIt%E2%80%99s%20come%20on%20at%20least%20once%20since%20we%20moved%20to%20our%20new%20place,%20and%20since%20seeing%20it%20my%20normal%20craving%20for%20Italian%20turned%20into%20a%20monster%20craving%20for%20Italian-American.%20Fortunately,%20the%20real%20Henry%20Hill%E2%80%99s%20cookbook%20is%20in%20our%20collection%E2%80%93as%20it%20should%20be%20in%20yours%20if%20you%20love%20this%20food%20too.%20Not%20only%20is%20it%20filled%20with%20great%20recipes,%20but%20also%20many%20tips%20on%20how%20to%20%E2%80%9Cfake%20it%E2%80%9D%20when%20certain%20foods%20aren%E2%80%99t%20available%20at%20your%20market,%20and%20it%E2%80%99s%20all%20wrapped%20up%20in%20a%20memoir-lite%20structure%20that%20makes%20for%20a%20fast,%20entertaining%20read.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECome%20to%20think%20of%20it,%20it%20kind%20of%20resembles%20a%20blog%20only%20in%20book%20form.%20Which%20means%20you%20absolutely%20must%20own%20it.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EVeal%20Chops%20with%20Sage%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20best%20part%20of%20the%20book%20is%20the%20post-Goodfellas%20period%20during%20his%20time%20in%20the%20Witness%20Protection%20Program,%20because%20he%E2%80%99s%20so%20out%20of%20his%20element%20but%20he%20still%20makes%20it%20work.%20His%20%E2%80%9CHalftime%20Linguine%E2%80%9D%20doesn%E2%80%99t%20resemble%20any%20standard%20Italian-American%20dish%20by%20any%20means,%20but%20it%E2%80%99s%20incredibly%20Italian%20in%20its%20origin,%20because%20he%E2%80%99s%20working%20with%20what%20he%20has%20and%20uses%20the%20flavors%20he%20can%20find%20in%20an%20Omaha%20supermarket%20in%20the%20seventies.%20The%20idea%20that%20this%20Italian%20guy%20was%20cooking%20during%20the%20first%20two%20quarters%20of%20an%20American%20football%20game%20is%20so%20hilarious%20to%20me%20because%20it%E2%80%99s%20so%20not%20the%20normal%20societal%20norm%20of%20that%20period,%20but%20once%20everyone%20tasted%20the%20food%20they%20didn%E2%80%99t%20care%20one%20way%20or%20the%20other%20anyway.%20It%E2%80%99s%20also%20quite%20easy%20to%20prepare%E2%80%93even%20more%20so%20these%20days%20with%20supermarkets%20now%20stocking%20more%20things%20in%20their%20ethnic%20sections%E2%80%93so%20you%20can%20serve%20it%20during%20football%20halftime%E2%80%A6or%20any%20time%20you%E2%80%99re%20in%20the%20mood%20for%20deliciousness.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHalftime%20Linguine%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Eadapted%20from%20The%20Wise%20Guy%20Cookbook:%20My%20Favorite%20Recipes%20From%20My%20Life%20as%20a%20Goodfella%20to%20Cooking%20on%20the%20Run%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBring%20a%20pot%20of%20four%20quarts%20of%20water%20to%20a%20boil;%20add%20pasta%20and%20reserve%20a%20cup%20of%20the%20starchy%20water.%20In%20the%20meantime,%20heat%20the%20olive%20oil%20into%20a%20skillet%20over%20medium%20low%20heat%20and%20add%20the%20garlic%20and%20cook%20for%20a%20minute.Add%20the%20anchovies%20with%20a%20little%20of%20their%20oil%20and%20mash%20them%20into%20the%20pan%20until%20they%20melt%20into%20the%20oil.%20Add%20in%20the%20tomatoes,%20parsley,%201/2%20cup%20of%20the%20reserved%20water%20and%20some%20pepper%20and%20cook%20for%203-5%20minutes,%20stirring.%20Add%20the%20linguine%20and%20toss,%20adding%20more%20pasta%20water%20if%20needed,%20and%20serve%20immediately%20with%20Grana%20Padano.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
