.%20And%20this%20week,%20she's%20helping%20the%20hubby's%20younger%20sister,%20who%20has%20a%20new%20baby%20and%20is%20moving%20into%20a%20new%20house.%20And%20THEN%20she%20and%20my%20mother-in-law%20volunteered%20to%20bring%20most%20of%20the%20Thanksgiving%20feast%20to%20our%20house%20on%20Thursday.%20So%20yeah,%20she%20deserves%20a%20lot%20more%20than%20a%20container%20of%20soup.%20But%20we'll%20start%20small.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd%20then%20I'm%20delivering%20a%20container%20to%20my%20little%20brother.%20He%20just%20likes%20soup.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20made%20just%20a%20few%20tweaks%20to%20the%20original%20recipe%20--%20I%20halved%20the%20amount%20of%20oil,%20and%20tossed%20in%20a%20bay%20leaf%20and%20some%20sherry.%20I%20also%20used%20a%20long%20grain%20and%20wild%20rice%20combo.%20Wild%20rice%20is%20harvested%20by%20hand,%20making%20it%20quite%20spendy.%20It's%20easier%20to%20find%20it%20mixed%20with%20long%20grain%20rice.%20And%20even%20though%20I%20could%20probably%20walk%20to%20Minnesota%20and%20harvest%20some%20myself,%20I%20couldn't%20seem%20to%20find%20JUST%20wild%20rice%20at%20the%20local%20supermarket.%20I%20hope%20I'm%20not%20doing%20a%20disservice%20to%20Angie's%20recipe.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAngie's%20Cream%20of%20Chicken%20and%20Wild%20Rice%20Soup%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EServes%208%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E1.%20In%20a%20large%20soup%20pot%20or%20Dutch%20oven,%20heat%20oil%20to%20medium-high.%20Add%20onion,%20carrot,%20celery,%20and%20chicken.%20Sprinkle%20with%20salt%20and%20pepper,%20and%20add%20bay%20leaf.%20Saut%C3%A9%20about%203-5%20minutes,%20or%20until%20the%20veggies%20are%20softened.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E2.%20Sprinkle%20in%20flour,%20a%20little%20bit%20at%20a%20time,%20stirring%20and%20cooking%20until%20flour%20is%20blended%20in.%20(Don't%20let%20it%20brown.)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIt'll%20start%20to%20look%20very%20paste-like,%20but%20this%20is%20OK.%20This%20is%20forming%20the%20roux%20to%20thicken%20up%20the%20soup,%20and%20your%20veggies%20and%20chicken%20will%20again%20return%20to%20their%20usual%20forms.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E3.%20Slowly%20add%20chicken%20broth,%20stirring%20until%20the%20broth%20and%20roux%20are%20blended.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E4.%20Add%20the%20wild%20rice,%20and%20adjust%20your%20seasonings.%20Heat%20thoroughly.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E5.%20Add%20the%20sherry%20and%20the%20half%20and%20half.%20Reheat%20gently,%20but%20do%20not%20boil.%20Remove%20bay%20leaf%20before%20serving.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
