%20lately%20because%20I%20signed%20up%20to%20write%20a%2050,o00%20word%20%22novel%22%20(and%20I%20use%20the%20word%20loosely,%20very%20very%20loosely)%20in%20one%20month%20with%20NaNoWriMo.%20So%20far,%20it's%20week%202%20and%20I%20have%207,000%20words.%20Not%20enough,%20obviously.%20I%20should%20have%20at%20least%2012,000%20if%20I%20ever%20hope%20to%20finish.%20The%20good%20news%20is%20that%20I%20work%20well%20under%20pressure.%20The%20good%20news%20for%20my%20family%20is%20that%20because%20I%20have%20been%20fairly%20preoccupied%20I've%20been%20hammering%20out%20tried%20and%20true%20recipes%20-%20things%20I%20don't%20even%20have%20to%20think%20about%20to%20make%20for%20dinner.%20The%20good%20news%20for%20YOU,%20dear%20readers,%20is%20that%20one%20of%20those%20recipes%20is%20turkey%20chili%20which%20I%20made%20a%20couple%20weeks%20ago%20to%20feed%20some%20Halloween%20revelers,%20and%20which%20I%20made%20recently%20for%20my%20sister%20and%20her%20kids,%20all%20of%20whom%20are%20suffering%20from%20the%20dreaded%20H1N1.%20(is%20it%20just%20me,%20or%20does%20H1N1%20remind%20anyone%20else%20of%20the%20word%20heinie?-%20is%20that%20how%20you%20even%20spell%20heinie?%20Smith%20thinks%20its%20hynie%20--%20my%20spell%20check%20has%20no%20idea%20-%20ok,%20clearly%20I%20am%20sleep%20deprived.%20This%20is%20what%20attempting%20to%20write%20a%20novel%20in%2030%20days%20does%20to%20you.%20Ok.%20Moving%20on.)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESo,%20turkey%20chili.%20Very%20easy,%20very%20delicious,%20and%20my%20favorite%20kind%20of%20recipe%20because%20you%20just%20dump%20into%20it%20all%20sorts%20of%20things%20you%20have%20hanging%20about%20your%20refrigerator.%20I%20made%20it%20two%20slightly%20different%20ways:%20in%20one%20I%20used%20a%20link%20of%20turkey%20kielbasa%20and%20in%20the%20other,%20because%20Whole%20Foods%20was%20out%20of%20turkey%20kielbasa,%20I%20used%20this%20Tuscan%20sausage%20they%20made.%20I%20liked%20the%20kielbasa%20better.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EServes%204-6%20-%20(easily%20doubled)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHeat%20a%20dutch%20oven%20over%20medium%20high%20flame%20and%20swirl%20in%202%20TLBS%20of%20olive%20oil%20then%20add%20onions.%20Cook%20onions%20until%20almost%20translucent,%20add%20celery%20and%20carrots%20and%20let%20cook%20for%20a%20bit%20-%20until%20they%20soften%20some%20(10%20min%20or%20so)%20stirring%20so%20they%20don't%20burn%20or%20stick.%20Sprinkle%20some%20of%20the%20taco%20seasoning%20over%20everything%20and%20cook%20another%20minute%20or%20so.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETake%20everything%20out%20of%20dutch%20oven%20and%20reserve,%20swirl%20in%20your%20last%20TLBSP%20of%20oil%20then%20when%20oil%20is%20hot,%20add%20all%20the%20ground%20turkey%20and%20cook%20over%20medium%20heat.%20While%20this%20is%20cooking%20you%20can%20either%20saute%20the%20whole%20sausage%20in%20another%20pan%20with%20a%20little%20water%20and%20oil%20then%20slice%20it%20when%20it's%20browned%20and%20add%20to%20chili%20after%20you%20add%20the%20beans,%20OR,%20remove%20sausage%20casing%20and%20add%20it%20to%20the%20ground%20meat%20RIGHT%20NOW.%20Either%20ways%20is%20yummy.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhen%20the%20turkey%20is%20almost%20cooked%20(don't%20cook%20it%20completely%20through%20or%20it%20will%20be%20tough%20later)%20add%20the%20beans,%20tomatoes%20with%20the%20juices,%20the%20tomato%20paste%20and%20the%20rest%20of%20the%20taco%20seasoning.%20Put%20the%20vegetables%20back%20in%20the%20pot.%20Give%20it%20a%20taste%20and%20see%20if%20it%20needs%20salt%20and%20pepper%20-%20add%20to%20taste.%20If%20you%20sauteed%20the%20sausage,%20add%20it%20now.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELet%20all%20this%20simmer%20down%20until%20you%20like%20the%20way%20it%20looks.%20If%20you%20want%20a%20thicker%20chili%20add%20another%20can%20of%20beans%20and%20adjust%20the%20seasoning.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E*%20You%20can%20also%20use%20leftover%20turkey%20(THANKSGIVING%20ALERT!)%20-%20just%20chunk%20it%20up%20and%20toss%20it%20in%20after%20the%20vegetables%20have%20cooked%20a%20bit%20-%20you%20don't%20have%20to%20remove%20the%20vegetables.%20Add%20the%20tomatoes%20right%20away.%20I've%20also%20thrown%20in%20some%20baby%20spinach,%20or%20a%20frozen%20pack%20of%20peas,%20or%20some%20chopped%20kale%20or%20swiss%20chard%20which%20you%20can%20saute%20with%20the%20vegetables.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETo%20serve,%20put%20it%20in%20a%20bowl%20with%20a%20little%20sour%20cream,%20jalapenos%20and%20chopped%20cilantro%20sprinkled%20on%20top.%20Or,%20if%20you%20prefer%20to%20tell%20your%20kids%20it's%20a%20taco,%20warm%20some%20taco%20shells%20and%20plonk%20the%20chili%20in%20-%20the%20kids%20will%20eat%20it%20up.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20is%20easy%20and%20filling%20and%20something%20even%20a%20moron%20like%20me%20who%20agrees%20to%20write%20a%20novel%20in%20one%20month%20(ONE%20MONTH!)%20can%20pull%20off%20.%20I've%20been%20a%20little%20shouty%20in%20the%20this%20post,%20I%20can't%20help%20it,%20I'm%20SLEEP%20DEPRIVED.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
