When LÄRABAR asked me to take a hike in celebration of National Take a Hike Day on November 17th, I was happy to take my dog, Nellie over to a local hiking trail and dog park. Well, Nellie had other plans as I’ll share shortly.
Why I love LÄRABAR!
I’ve been a big fan of LÄRABAR products for ages since they’re naturally gluten free and delicious. Each 1.6 ounce bar is non-GMO, gluten free, Kosher, and some are even Fair Trade Certified. I keep a few in my purse and always travel with them, since you never know if there’ll be something on the plane, airport or hotel that you can eat. My favorite LÄRABAR flavors are pecan pie and cherry pie though I’ve never had a LÄRABAR I didn’t like!

%20Otherwise,%20I%20don%E2%80%99t%20venture%20much%20into%20our%20woods.%20Snakes,%20ticks,%20brambles,%20gullies,%20sticks%20to%20trip%20over,%20and%20holes%20to%20fall%20into.%20Not%20my%20idea%20of%20fun.%20But%20Nellie%20and%20my%20husband%20(who%20hunts%20back%20there)%20love%20it.%20Then%20I%20got%20to%20this%20part%20and%20thought%20it%20was%20rather%20pretty.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EYou%20expect%20Michon%20and%20Daryl%20to%20show%20up%20any%20minute,%20eh?%20Wish%20I%20brought%20more%20L%C3%84RABARs%20to%20share%20with%20them!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOur%20wood%20are%20deceptive.%20The%20drop%20off%20is%20steep%20and%20within%20a%20few%20hundred%20feet,%20you%E2%80%99re%20down%20in%20the%20valley%20below.%20Also,%20even%20though%20it%E2%80%99s%20fall%20and%20the%20trees%20are%20beginning%20to%20shed%20their%20leaves,%20I%20was%20still%20afraid%20of%20getting%20lost.%20(I%20did%20have%20my%20phone%20with%20me%20just%20in%20case.)%20I%20made%20sure%20to%20turn%20around%20and%20keep%20my%20house%20within%20site.%20(This%20picture%20is%20about%20halfway%20down%20the%20trail.)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20was%20trying%20to%20find%20Nellie%20and%20was%20concerned%20that%20she%20had%20run%20off%20into%20the%20undeveloped%20open%20space%20that%E2%80%99s%20behind%20ours.%20Then%20I%20spotted%20her%20digging%20for%20chipmunks%20under%20a%20half%20rotted%20tree%20trunk.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20watched%20her%20for%20a%20while,%20hoping%20she%E2%80%99d%20exhaust%20herself%20and%20follow%20me%20out.%20After%20all,%20this%20used%20to%20be%20the%20dog%20that%20would%20walk%20next%20to%20me%20needing%20no%20leash%20while%20I%20strolled%20around%20the%20neighborhood.%20However,%20when%20she%E2%80%99s%20in%20the%20middle%20of%20a%20chipmunk%20digging%20frenzy,%20all%20bets%20are%20off.%20She%20eventually%20ran%20off%20into%20a%20tangle%20of%20bushes%20and%20trees.%20I%20headed%20towards%20the%20house,%20hoping%20she%E2%80%99d%20come%20back%20up%20when%20she%20was%20tired.%20While%20I%20was%20headed%20up%20the%20trail,%20which%20is%20steeper%20than%20it%20looks%20going%20down%20,%20I%20saw%20her%20go%20up%20towards%20our%20back%20deck,%20but%20when%20I%20got%20there,%20no%20such%20luck.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20took%20a%20L%C3%84RABAR%20and%20water%20break%20and%20headed%20around%20the%20other%20side%20of%20the%20house.%20I%20spotted%20Nellie%20headed%20towards%20our%20neighbor%E2%80%99s%20woods.%20So%20back%20down%20the%20path%20I%20went,%20then%20through%20the%20woods%20again,%20and%20then%20to%20the%20Edwards%E2%80%99%20woods,%20hoping%20eventually%20I%E2%80%99d%20find%20her.%20%20And%20there%20I%20found%20Nellie,%20in%20the%20creek,%20digging%20away%20in%20the%20red%20Georgia%20clay.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EEventually,%20she%20tired%20herself%20out%20and%20laid%20down%20in%20the%20middle%20of%20the%20creek.%20Splat,%20right%20in%20the%20mud!%20Faced%20with%20no%20alternative,%20I%20stepped%20into%20the%20creek,%20got%20the%20leash%20on%20her,%20and%20half%20carried%20her%20up%20the%20other%20bank.%20Otherwise,%20it%20was%20a%20steep%20100%20yard%20hike%20back%20up%20to%20our%20property.%20No%20thank%20you!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWe%20walked%20through%20the%20Edwards%E2%80%99%20woods,%20through%20their%20front%20yard,%20down%20their%20long%20driveway,%20and%20up%20the%20street%20to%20our%20house.%20Then%20it%20was%20back%20into%20our%20house,%20where%20I%20stripped%20down%20(had%20to%20get%20those%20muddy%20boots%20and%20jeans%20off%20and%20check%20myself%20for%20ticks%20%E2%80%93%20yuck!)%20and%20then%20got%20Nellie%20into%20the%20tub%20for%20a%20bath.%20That%20was%20followed%20by%20getting%20the%20mud%20off%20the%20bathroom%20floor%20and%20bedroom%20carpet.%20I%20was%20exhausted,%20but%20had%20to%20get%20some%20work%20done.%20So%20I%20had%20a%20L%C3%84RABAR%20and%20a%20diet%20soda%20at%20my%20desk%20instead%20of%20lunch.%20No%20rest%20for%20the%20busy!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAll%20in%20all,%20we%20had%20a%20good%20two%20hour%20workout%20thanks%20to%20L%C3%84RABAR!%20(And%20yes,%20Nellie%20knew%20she%20was%20a%20bad%20girl.%20When%20the%20kids%20came%20home%20from,%20she%20hid%20in%20my%20room%20and%20shivered%20when%20I%20told%20them%20the%20story.%20She%E2%80%99s%20not%20dumb.%20Just%20addicted%20to%20digging%20for%20chipmunks.)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EComment%20to%20win%20L%C3%84RABARs%20and%20L%C3%84RABAR%20RENOLA!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EComment%20below%20to%20win%2016%20L%C3%84RABAR%20and%20RENOLA.%20All%20you%20need%20to%20do%20is%20answer%20what%20flavor%20of%20L%C3%84RABAR%20you%20are%20most%20excited%20to%20try.%20You%20can%20find%20a%20list%20of%20L%C3%84RABAR%20flavors%20%20here.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20contest%20ends%20November%2010,%202014%20at%20midnight.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EYou%20must%20be%2018%20or%20over%20and%20live%20in%20the%20continental%20U.S.%20Please%20see%20my%20official%20rules%20for%20This%20Mama%20Cooks!%20giveaways%20and%20contests.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
