%20are%20good%20for%20something.%20%20I%20do%20cook%20regularly%20from%20a%20number%20of%20them,%20but%20there%20are%20others%20that%20just%20hang%20out%20in%20the%20kitchen%20as%20novelty%20items.%20%20Far%20too%20often,%20I%20turn%20the%20internet%20when%20looking%20for%20a%20new%20recipe%20to%20try.%20%20I%20know%20this%20is,%20in%20part,%20because%20it%20is%20much%20easier%20to%20search%20for%20specific%20ingredients%20on%20my%20computer,%20but%20I%20love%20quite%20a%20few%20of%20the%20cookbooks%20I've%20collected%20--%20even%20ones%20I%20don't%20use%20often.%20%20They%20do%20take%20up%20space,%20though,%20and%20I%20should%20probably%20use%20them%20or%20lose%20(at%20least%20a%20few%20of)%20them.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20thought%20perhaps%20I%20would%20create%20a%20challenge%20in%20which%20I%20attempt%20to%20make%20at%20least%20one%20recipe%20from%20each%20of%20my%20cookbooks%20(and%20books%20of%20%22food%20writing%22%20that%20include%20recipes)%20over%20the%20course%20of%20a%20year.%20%20This%20may%20help%20me%20decide%20which%20cookbooks%20to%20get%20rid%20of,%20but%20it%20might%20also%20clue%20me%20in%20to%20some%20new%20favorites.%20%20As%20a%20bonus,%20this%20could%20also%20create%20some%20entertaining%20blog%20content%20(for%20you!)%20along%20the%20way.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20morning,%20I%20made%20up%20a%20dish%20of%20the%20cookbook's:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBoone%20Tavern%20Spoon%20Bread%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E(note:%20recipe%20instructions%20have%20been%20paraphrased)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOnce%20the%20milk%20is%20boiling%20(be%20careful,%20as%20it%20can%20easily%20boil%20over%20in%20a%20too-small%20pot),%20add%20the%20cornmeal%20and%20stir%20constantly%20until%20it%20is%20well-mixed%20and%20thick.%20%20Remove%20from%20heat%20and%20allow%20to%20cool.%20%20Preheat%20oven%20to%20375%20F.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhen%20cooled,%20stir%20cornmeal%20mixture%20into%20other%20ingredients.%20%20Mix%20(I%20used%20a%20stand%20mixer)%20at%20high%20speed%20for%2010-15%20minutes,%20or%20until%20smooth.%20%20Spread%20in%20a%20pie%20plate%20or%20casserole%20dish%20(1-1%201/2%20qt%20capacity).%20%20Bake%20in%20oven%20for%2030%20minutes.%20%20Serve%20with%20melted%20butter%20(or%20cheese%20or%20hot%20sauce%20or%20sour%20cream,%20I%20thought,%20with%20bacon%20on%20the%20side).%20%20The%20cookbook%20specifies%20that%20this%20should%20be%20eaten%20with%20a%20fork,%20which%20tickled%20me.%20%20It's%20%22spoon%22%20bread,%20after%20all!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESpoon%20bread%20is%20like%20a%20corn%20bread%20casserole.%20%20I%20found%20the%20recipe%20plain%20but%20filling,%20which%20seems%20true%20to%20the%20aesthetic%20and%20contents%20of%20this%20cookbook.%20%20I%20have%20a%20hunch,%20flipping%20through%20it,%20that%20there%20are%20other%20things%20in%20this%20volume%20I%20would%20enjoy%20making%20and%20eating.%20%20The%20New%20York%20Times%20Large%20Type%20Cookbook%20is%20staying%20on%20the%20%22keep%22%20pile%20for%20now.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHow%20many%20cookbooks%20do%20I%20have,%20anyway?%20%20I'm%20taking%20bets.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
