%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDo%20you%20ever%20feel%20like%20you%20need%20a%20vacation%20from%20your%20vacation?%20Ever%20since%20having%20a%20baby,%20I%20sure%20do.%20I%20think%20it%E2%80%99s%20frowned%20upon%20to%20say%20that,%20but%20traveling%20with%20a%20child%20is%20down-to-the-bone%20exhausting!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%E2%80%99m%20so%20glad%20we%20got%20away%20from%20this%20snow.%20And%20it%20never%20feels%20like%20we%20spend%20enough%20time%20with%20our%20family%20by%20just%20seeing%20them%20every%20six%20months,%20especially%20since%20they%20used%20to%20live%20up%20north%20full%20time.%20But%20I%20always%20come%20back%20feeling%20that%20we%20should%20have%20stayed%20longer,%20and%20like%20I%20need%20to%20still%20take%20a%20few%20days%20off%20before%20going%20back%20to%20work%20so%20that%20I%20can%20get%20my%20life%20back%20together%20and%20recover%20from%20flying%20with%20a%20toddler.%20Our%20return%20flight%20was%20delayed,%20and%20Georgia%20did%20NOT%20cope%20well%20%E2%80%94%20she%20threw%20a%20water%20bottle%20and%20poured%20milk%20on%20our%20seat%20mate,%20who%20turned%20out%20to%20be%20a%20very%20understanding%20grandpa,%20and%20kicked%20the%20guy%20in%20front%20of%20us%20for%20three%20hours%20straight.%20She%20head-butted%20me%20so%20hard%20at%20one%20point%20that%20I%20thought%20she%E2%80%99d%20broken%20my%20nose.%20Oh,%20and%20did%20I%20mention%20that%20Mark%20got%20food%20poisoning%20and%20spent%20the%20entire%20day%20with%20a%20barf%20bag?%20Not%20fun.%20We%20actually%20talked%20about%20driving%20next%20time%20even%20though%20it%20takes%20three%20full%20days.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOn%20the%20plus%20side,%20I%20think%20we%20might%20be%20only%20house%20in%20the%20entire%20Greater%20Boston%20area%20that%20doesn%E2%80%99t%20have%20horrific%20ice%20dams%20right%20now.%20We%20didn%E2%80%99t%20have%20a%20single%20leak%20when%20we%20got%20home,%20and%20our%20next-door%20neighbors%20snow-blowed%20us%20out%20so%20we%20could%20get%20in%20the%20driveway%20upon%20returning%20from%20the%20airport.%20We%20really%20are%20so%20lucky.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Ewhere%20did%20our%20house%20go?%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOn%20our%20last%20day%20in%20Florida,%20Mark%20and%20I%20took%20Georgia%20to%20Nokomis%20Groves%20for%20her%20first%20citrus%20swirl.%20Well,%20technically%20she%20had%20the%20lime-vanilla%20cone%20in%20utero,%20but%20she%20very%20rudely%20made%20me%20throw%20up%20the%20entire%20thing%20an%20hour%20later,%20so%20we%20had%20to%20go%20back!%20It%20only%20took%20her%20one%20attempt%20at%20biting%20the%20ice%20cream%20before%20she%20figured%20out%20to%20lick%20it%20and%20protect%20her%20front%20teeth.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EP.S.,%20can%20we%20talk%20about%20the%20fact%20that%20mom%20has%20never%20owned%20a%20pair%20of%20Topsiders,%20and%20this%20kid%20already%20has%20a%20hot%20pink%20pair??%20Someone%E2%80%99s%20daddy%20sure%20spoils%20her.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EShe%E2%80%99s%20in%20a%20major%20daddy%20phase%20right%20now,%20which%20is%20kind%20of%20a%20relief%20after%2018%20months%20of%20mom-clinging!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EGeorgia%20also%20tried%20her%20first%20smoothie%20while%20in%20Florida.%20My%20aunt%20just%20got%20a%20Vitamix%20(jealous!!)%20so%20we%20made%20Georgia%20a%20smoothie%20with%20blueberries,%20plain%20Greek%20yogurt%20and%20banana.%20She%20loved%20it!%20She%20only%20just%20started%20using%20sippy%20cups%20with%20a%20straw%20a%20couple%20weeks%20ago,%20so%20I%E2%80%99m%20hoping%20this%20is%20the%20start%20of%20her%20finally%20giving%20up%20her%20bottle%20for%20good.%20She%20is%20SO%20attached%20to%20it.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIf%20I%20had%20a%20Vitamix,%20the%20main%20thing%20I%E2%80%99d%20use%20it%20for%20would%20be%20green%20smoothies,%20followed%20by%20soups.%20Why%20green%20smoothies?%20Because%20the%20Vitamix%20can%20puree%20vegetables,%20even%20rough%20ones%20like%20kale,%20in%20a%20way%20that%20standard%20blenders%20just%20cannot.%20If%20you%20like%20to%20add%20greens%20into%20your%20fruit%20smoothies,%20the%20only%20way%20to%20make%20them%20drinkable%20instead%20of%20gritty%20is%20to%20go%20with%20a%20high-end%20blender%20like%20the%20Vitamix.%20Plus,%20it%E2%80%99s%20self-cleaning,%20and%20has%20an%20automatic%20off%20sensor%20when%20purees%20are%20done.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20have%20a%20great%20Cuisinart%20that%20we%20received%20for%20our%20wedding,%20and%20it%E2%80%99s%20still%20going%20strong%20after%207%20years%20%E2%80%94%20maybe%20when%20it%20dies,%20I%E2%80%99ll%20think%20about%20investing%20in%20a%20Vitamix!%20My%20favorite%20green%20smoothie%20is%20Kimberly%20Snyder%E2%80%99s%20Glowing%20Green%20Smoothie,%20the%20original%20classic:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20leave%20out%20the%20herbs%20and%20substitute%20some%20ice%20for%20the%20water%20because%20I%20prefer%20green%20smoothies%20very%20cold.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMy%20aunt%20made%20a%20great%20soup%20with%20her%20Vitamix%20this%20trip,%20and%20she%20showed%20me%20how.%20It%E2%80%99s%20a%20Sweet%20Potato%20Soup%20that%20you%20start%20on%20the%20stovetop%20and%20finish%20in%20the%20Vitamix,%20adding%20a%20dash%20of%20cream%20if%20you%20want%20to%20make%20it%20more%20rich.%20It%20has%20all%20kinds%20of%20spices%20and%20some%20peanut%20butter%20in%20it%20%E2%80%94%20yum!%20We%20ate%20it%20topped%20with%20salted%20cashews.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESweet%20Potato%20Soup%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECoat%20the%20bottom%20of%20a%20Dutch%20oven%20or%20heavy-duty%20pot%20with%20oil%20and%20heat%20over%20medium.%20Add%20in%20one%20large%20diced%20onion,%203-4%20minced%20garlic%20cloves,%20and%201%20TBSP%20minced%20fresh%20ginger,%20and%20cook%20until%20tender,%20about%203-4%20minutes.%20Add%20in%20two%20good-sized%20peeled%20and%20chopped%20sweet%20potatoes.%20Cover%20with%204%20cups%20of%20low-sodium%20vegetable%20broth%20(the%20contents%20of%20one%20cardboard%20box).%20Pour%20in%201%20cup%20of%20water%20and%20add%20in%204%20-5%20cups%20of%20unsalted%20or%20low-sodium%20diced%20tomatoes%20(she%20uses%20fire%20roasted).%20%20Add%20in%20a%201/2%20cup%20of%20unsalted%20peanut%20butter%20(smooth),%20then%20the%20following%20spice%20mixture:%20cinnamon%20(1/4%20tsp)%20cumin%20(2%20tsp)%20coriander%20(2%20tsp)%20sea%20salt%20(1/4%20tsp)%20and%20cayenne%20pepper%20(1/4%20tsp).%20Bring%20to%20a%20boil.%20Let%20cook%20for%20about%2012%20minutes%20or%20until%20the%20potatoes%20are%20soft.%20Reduce%20the%20heat%20to%20a%20simmer%20and%20add%20in%204%20cups%20of%20fresh%20Swiss%20Chard;%20she%20uses%20the%20entire%20bunch%20from%20the%20store,%20stems%20and%20leaves%20chopped.%20Cover%20the%20pot%20and%20let%20the%20chard%20wilt%20about%202%20minutes.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIt%E2%80%99s%20ready%20to%20eat%20as-is%20at%20this%20point,%20but%20she%20let%20it%20cool%20and%20then%20blended%20in%20the%20Vitamix%20until%20pureed.%20If%20desired,%20add%20in%20some%20half%20&%20half%20or%20veggie%20stock.%20Serve%20with%20some%20nice%20crusty%20bread%20or%20croutons,%20and%20salted%20peanuts,%20cashews%20or%20asiago%20cheese%20on%20top.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWell,%20tomorrow%20it%E2%80%99s%20back%20to%20braving%20the%20snow%20and%20the%20MBTA%20commute%20again%20for%20me.%20Don%E2%80%99t%20I%20wish%20I%20was%20still%20eating%20well%20and%20enjoying%20nice%20weather%20down%20south!%20Alas,%20reality%20comes%20crashing%20back%20down%20eventually.%20I%20hope%20you%20all%20stay%20safe%20and%20warm%20if%20you%E2%80%99re%20in%20this%20snow%20vortex%20gripping%20the%20northeast!%20And%20if%20you%20use%20your%20Vitamix%20for%20something%20really%20creative%20that%20I%20didn%E2%80%99t%20mention,%20or%20you%20have%20great%20smoothie%20recipes%20to%20share,%20call%20%E2%80%99em%20out%20in%20the%20comments.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHave%20a%20Happy%20Valentine%E2%80%99s%20Day!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELike%20Loading...%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ERelated%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
