Acerca de mí
I read cookbooks like novels & love learning about cultures through their food. If you go on a vacation, I want to know what you ate more than what you saw.

Influencias de Cocina
I have always loved watching people cook, and have always been fascinated by food. I didn't begin cooking until high school, and my first experiment was a chicken breast, topped with mozzarella cheese and curry powder. Yeah, it wasn't good. But I ate it because I made it and was proud of the attempt. My main influences have been cookbooks and cooking shows I've read and watched throughout my life. From "Celebrity Cooks" with Bruno Gerussi to The Urban Peasant, to little food segments on Polka Dot Door, I loved watching food on TV as a child. I still read cookbooks like others read novels. And I'm passing that on to my kids (as my young daughter pours through my latest cookbook while I type).
Currently I'm finding myself heavily influenced by local farmers, writers, bloggers and chefs who are helping to promote a healthier, local way of eating. I want my kids to understand that strawberries are a Summer treat and to look forward to the first asparagus of Spring. They are learning where food comes from (not grocery stores). I'm not raising food snobs at all. I'm raising children who will understand and appreciate what it takes to feed people, and who are thankful for the bounty of where we live and understand and accept the burden on all of us to help others as we're able.
