Teaching people to cook like a Southerner

Acerca de mí
Cooking is my passion. I began my professional cooking with a special country cook in a Mom & Pop Southern buffett restaurant. Miss Pearl taught me to make Hot Water Cornbread, but I could never make it taste just like hers. That is the secret to cooking, the love you put into your recipe! She taught me so many things about cooking & just thinking about her brings a smile to my face! I went on to work in my families resturant for several years.
My education is as a RN, but I'm taking a new course with my life and loving it! I want to teach people to eat like a Southerner, with a fresh and healthy approach to ingredients and technique. We live in the Midwest now but I'm from Texas and a Southerner through and through. Come join me on my journey..remember "Southern Cooking won't kill you"
Influencias de Cocina
Being from the South I would say that my greatest influences in the kitchen were my two grandmothers. Our hospitality in the South is a way of life, and feeding people is our utmost pleasure.
Otros Servicios
As a RN & food developer, I am focusing on eating healthy foods without added preservatives, msg, salts, sugars in excess & artifical anything! I believe if we refrain from eating foods that are over processed, we would see disease conditions that were not around 20 years ago subside.
I have an irrational hatred of MSG! Could be because I'm sensitive to it, but mostly it's because no one uses it unless their food needs added flavor. In my opinion, if they have sub par food, don't cover it up with MSG or other artificial products..just produce a better product. That is what we are striving for at New Southern Pantry. Great taste with no additives.

- 10 de Marzo de 2011Hello, Sheila - Like Paula Deen, I never met a stick of butter I didn't like...while 'good' and 'good for you' may not always be one-in-the-same, most of the time moderation of everything we eat is the key to healthy. I like your recipes and hope to see many more of your favorites. Welcome to CES. You'll find, as I have, that this is the friendliest resource on the internet for folks who love to cook and cook with love. best regards, Amos1 reply
- 06 de Abril de 2011Thanks Amos, sorry I missed your post. I had a major computer crash and recovery and am just now back rolling. I think it's better to use butter than other spreads, they are full of junk we just don't need. I think moderation is the key to everything. Look forward to trying your recipes too.. Paula is great, I think I have made everything in both of her first cookbooks! I even have the little plaque over my stove that says "Country Cooking make ya good lookin" Sheila
