Mama Mungo's Soup Kitchen
While growing up, my mother always served food she ate during the depression on Thursdays. She called it Poor Thursday. She taught us how to make bread from scratch, soups, stews, cheap meats like liver or ham hocks etc, and Beans, and Casseroles, and ugghhhh....Sardine sandwiches...I know....yuck! But it instilled in me a sense of preparedness for the unknown, and to this day, I have stapels in huge jars all accross the counter, with lentels, beans, rice, pastas, flours etc and lot's of poultry stock in my freezer and herb gardens in my window. With that, you will never go hungry in a pinch! So, this group is for recipes that are cheap, but nutritious, and are good tasting! I have lots of recipes to share and hope you all do too! With the economy like it is, this is important to learn!!!!
