A new twist on wine dinners at the Viceroy Santa Monica

Starting this January, Angelenos with a taste for life’s vinous pleasures have a new way to indulge with the launch of the Viceroy Wine Dinner Series at Whist Restaurant in The Viceroy Santa Monica.

With Opus One’s Steve Palumbo slated to host the first dinner on January 28, Viceroy Santa Monica is set to showcase some of the wine world’s biggest stars alongside Whist’s exceptional culinary offerings. Priced at $125.00 per person, Whist’s Wine Dinner Series features monthly five-course dinners specially crafted to highlight each of the remarkable wines. Putting a new twist on a classic concept, Whist’s Wine Dinner series offers a departure from traditional seated wine dinners and allows dinners to eat and drink in an interactive, social atmosphere.

“Our goal was to create an atmosphere were everyone is comfortable asking questions and interacting with the winemakers and chef,” says Whist Beverage Manager Thomas Rekasis. “Each Whist Wine Dinner will be set up as a series of tasting stations where guests can experience different food and wine pairings throughout the restaurant and poolside cabana spaces. Instead of being stationary, we wanted to create a more fluid and dynamic experience, encouraging our guests to mix and mingle.”

Each wine dinner is limited to 50 guests per dinner and takes place the last Wednesday of every month. Dinner begins with a half-hour Champagne reception at 6:30 p.m., followed by dinner from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. The schedule through June is as follows:

• Opus One – January 28, 2009

• Quintessa, Faust, Veramonte – February 25

• Stag’s Leap Winery – March 25

• Beckstoffer Winery – April 29

• Silver Oak Cellars – May 27

• Joseph Phelps Insignia – June 24
