,%20came%20over%20for%20dinner.%20%20We%20live%20on%20opposite%20sides%20of%20the%20Burbank/Glendale%20border.%20%20That%20means%20'The%20Valley',%20for%20those%20of%20you%20who%20do%20not%20live%20in%20these%20parts.%20%20The%20Valley%20is%20generally%20a%20good%2010%20degrees%20hotter%20than%20the%20rest%20of%20the%20city.%20%20You%20can%20literally%20watch%20the%20temperature%20guage%20in%20your%20car%20rise%20as%20you%20cross%20over%20the%20hill.%20%20Last%20night,%20on%20my%20way%20home%20from%20parts%20west,%20I%20watched%20mine:%20%2079,%2082,%2097,.....104!%20%20104%20degrees%20at%206:30pm.%20%20Good%20lord.%20%20Anyway,%20dinner%20and%20friends.%20%20I%20have%20spent%20several%20lovely%20evenings%20seated%20at%20the%20bar%20in%20E%20&%20S's%20kitchen,%20eating%20black%20bean%20burgers%20and%20shooting%20the%20breeze,%20so%20I%20wanted%20to%20return%20the%20favor.%20%20On%20the%20hottest%20night%20of%20the%20year.%20%20Here's%20what%20we%20ate:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELentil%20Burgers%20with%20Tomato%20Salad%20and%20Basil%20Mayo%20(french%20fries,%20too,%20but%20they%20were%20frozen%20and%20from%20a%20bag.%20%20shhhh!)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20found%20the%20basic%20recipe%20for%20these%20burgers%20online,%20but%20it's%20been%20ages%20ago,%20so%20I%20don't%20know%20where.%20%20I%20would%20give%20credit%20where%20credit%20was%20due%20if%20I%20could!%20%20I've%20tweeked%20it%20a%20bit%20to%20my%20liking.%20%20(and%20last%20night%20I%20doubled%20this%20and%20it%20worked%20great)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPlace%20the%20lentils,%20water,%20and%20salt%20in%20saucepan,%20bring%20to%20a%20boil,%20lower%20heat,%20cover,%20and%20simmer%20for%20about%2045%20minutes,%20until%20liquid%20is%20nearly%20gone%20and%20lentils%20are%20soft%20but%20not%20mushy.%20%20While%20the%20lentils%20cook,%20saut%C3%A9%20the%20onion%20and%20carrot%20in%20oil%20until%20soft,%20about%205%20minutes%20and%20set%20aside.%20%20Give%20the%20rolled%20oats%20a%20quick%20spin%20in%20the%20food%20processor%20until%20they%20reach%20a%20fine%20meal.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMix%20the%20lentils,%20onions,%20carrots,%20salt%20and%20pepper,%20and%20optional%20soy%20sauce%20in%20a%20large%20bowl,%20then%20mix%20in%20the%20ground%20oats.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhile%20still%20warm,%20form%20the%20lentil%20mixture%20into%20patties.%20%20You%20can%20either%20pan%20fry%20the%20burgers%20with%20a%20little%20oil,%20bake%20them%20in%20a%20400%20degree%20oven%20for%20about%2015%20minutes%20until%20they%20brown,%20or%20leave%20them%20sitting%20on%20the%20counter%20in%20my%20stupidly%20hot%20kitchen%20and%20they%20will%20cook%20in%20no%20time.%20%20(I%20kid,%20I%20kid)%20%20Once%20the%20patties%20are%20made,%20apparently,%20you%20can%20also%20freeze%20them%20for%20up%20to%20a%20week.%20%20I%20usually%20just%20cook%20off%20any%20extra%20and%20we%20eat%20Lentil%20Burgers%20for%20lunch%20the%20next%20day%20or%20two.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETomato%20Salad:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20just%20took%20a%20bunch%20of%20red%20and%20orange%20grape%20tomatoes,%20halved%20them%20longways,%20and%20tossed%20them%20with%20flat-leaf%20parsley,%20a%20little%20lemon%20juice,%20olive%20oil,%20salt%20and%20pepper.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBasil%20Mayo:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMayonnaise%20(or%20Veganaise)%20and%20Basil%20in%20the%20food%20processor,%20eyeball%20the%20quantities.%20%20You%20kind%20of%20can't%20mess%20it%20up.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20put%20the%20burgers%20down%20on%20a%20big%20lettuce%20leaf,%20slapped%20on%20some%20basil%20mayo%20and%20tomato%20salad.%20%20Fries%20on%20the%20side.%20By%20the%20time%20it%20was%20done,%20I%20looked%20like%20I%20had%20either%20run%20a%20marathon%20or%20just%20gotten%20out%20of%20a%20swimming%20pool.%20%20I%20sweat.%20%20I%20just%20do,%20it's%20a%20fact%20of%20life.%20%20But,%20the%20food%20was%20good,%20the%20company%20was%20great.%20%20We%20had%20instant%20banana%20pudding%20for%20dessert.%20%20I%20even%20sprang%20for%20Jell-O%20brand%20instead%20of%20generic.%20%20Nothing%20is%20too%20good%20for%20my%20friends.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
