.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAs%20mon%20mari%20is%20always%20bringing%20windfall%20apples%20home%20it%20seemed%20like%20a%20good%20idea.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIt%20was.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20made%20some%20changes%20to%20the%20recipe,%20of%20course.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20original%20recipe%20called%20for%202%20cups%20of%20sugar.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThat%20seemed%20like%20way%20too%20much%20sugar,%20especially%20when%20the%20only%20offsetting%20flavor%20was%20apples.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20looked%20at%20some%20of%20my%20other%20quick%20bread%20recipes,%20and%20even%20the%20cranberry%20bread%20(cranberries%20are%20very%20tart)%20only%20has%201%20cup%20of%20sugar.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESo,%20I%20cut%20it%20in%20half%E2%80%A6%20And%20then%20I%20used%20half%20dark%20brown%20sugar%20and%20half%20white.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIn%20retrospect,%20I%20might%20have%20cut%20it%20a%20little%20too%20drastically.%20Sugar%20helps%20make%20baked%20goods%20moist.%20If%20I%20were%20to%20make%20this%20again%20I%20think%20I%20would%20add%20another%201/4%20cup%20of%20brown%20sugar.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EApple%20Bread%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETotal%20time:%2075%20minutes%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIngredients:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EInstructions:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPreheat%20the%20oven%20to%20350F%20(175C).%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EButter%20an%208%20X%205%20loaf%20pan,%20then%20%E2%80%98flour%E2%80%99%20it:%20put%20about%201%20tbs%20flour%20in%20the%20pan%20and%20tilt%20the%20pan%20so%20that%20the%20flour%20covers%20all%20of%20the%20buttered%20area.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPut%20eggs,%20milk,%20oil,%20sugars%20and%20vanilla%20into%20a%20deep%20bowl%20and%20whisk%20well%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAdd%20apples%20and%20stir%20well.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAdd%20all%20dry%20ingredients%20and%20stir%20well.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPour%20the%20batter%20into%20the%20pan%20and%20bake%20for%2060%20minutes,%20until%20a%20toothpick%20inserted%20in%20the%20center%20comes%20out%20clean.%20Test%20after%2055%20minutes.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ERemove%20from%20oven%20and%20allow%20to%20cool%20for%205%20minutes.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ERemove%20from%20pan%20and%20cool%20completely.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWe%20finally%20had%20enough%20rain%20to%20be%20able%20dig%20the%20path.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThat%20would%20be%20the%20%E2%80%98Royal%20We%E2%80%99%20as%20mon%20mari%20did%20all%20the%20digging%20and%20hauling.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20encouraged%20him%E2%80%A6.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhen%20it%20was%20time%20to%20lay%20the%20bricks%20I%20actually%20did%20some%20physical%20labor%E2%80%A6.%20He%20hauled%20and%20smoothed%20the%20sand;%20I%20organized%20and%20laid%20the%20bricks.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd%20then%20he%20fixed%20the%20bricks%E2%80%A6.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnyway,%20we%E2%80%99re%20done%20and%20we%20have%20a%20path.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EGuapa%20likes%20it.%20She%20decided%20to%20pose%20on%20it%20for%20me.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBonnie%20likes%20it,%20too%20but%20she%20was%20too%20tired%20to%20pose.%20She%20likes%20to%20snooze%20in%20the%20sun.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ENeither%20dog%20liked%20walking%20over%20the%20rocks%20so%20they%20are%20happy%20to%20have%20a%20nice%20path.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOn%20another%20note,%20we%20did%20the%20serious%20fall%20cleaning%20last%20week.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMon%20mari%20washes%20the%20windows.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20asked%20him,%20as%20long%20as%20he%20had%20a%20bucket%20of%20cleaning%20water,%20to%20see%20if%20he%20could%20clean%20the%20wall%20above%20the%20fireplace.%20We%20deliberately%20put%20washable%20wallpaper%20on%20that%20wall.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAs%20you%20can%20see%20the%20smoke%20does%20not%20wash%20off%20easily.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EActually,%20it%20doesn%E2%80%99t%20wash%20off%20at%20all.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESo%E2%80%A6..%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20new%20project,%20which%20you%20can%20see%20he%20has%20already%20started,%20is%20to%20put%20wood%20paneling%20up.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20don%E2%80%99t%20think%20the%20original%20builders%20of%20this%20house%20and%20this%20fireplace%20cared%20about%20a%20bit%20of%20smoke%20staining%20the%20stone%20walls.%20Fireplaces%20in%20this%20region%20tend%20to%20be%20directly%20on%20the%20floor%20and%20very%20shallow.%20At%20some%20point%20this%20fireplace%20was%20given%20a%20raised%20hearth%20and%20an%20attempt%20was%20made%20to%20extend%20it%20forward%20%E2%80%93%20probably%20to%20help%20contain%20the%20smoke.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIt%20didn%E2%80%99t%20work.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhat%20one%20cannot%20fix%20one%20works%20around.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20other%203%20fireplaces%20in%20the%20house%20(none%20of%20which%20are%20used)%20all%20have%20the%20original%20hearth%20on%20the%20floor.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELast%20update%20on%20November%2011,%202014%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
