Aunt Helen gave this recipe to my mother who modified it slightly. My mother gave it to my sister who modified it slightly. My sister gave it to me and I modified it to suit my taste. It is quite tasty and rivals the more complex and difficult recipes that I have for Boston Baked Beans. In less than an hour and a half you can have delicious baked beans for your dinner, picnic, pot luck or poker game.

It is a very adaptable recipe! And, has been well liked by anyone who likes good baked beans. Well done! Oh, thee King Syrup is a PA Dutch favorite. You can substitute any sweetener, like molasses. My husband used Grandma's or any dark molasses which has a taste he liked. Use whatever you like!

I think that King™ Syrup makes a difference but you may want to use a sweetener that your taste buds are more familiar with. Have fun with this recipe and make it yours, Aunt Helen won't care.
