Ingredientes

  • 1 lb Dry split peas
  • 8 c. Water (2 qts)
  • 1 c. Minced celery
  • 1 c. Minced onion
  • 1/4 tsp Pepper
  • 1 x Ham bone (leftover)
  • 2 c. Ham, cooked & diced

Direcciones

  1. Rinse peas, add in to a 4 or possibly 5-qt saucepan. Add in water and bring to a boil.
  2. Boil gently for 2 min. Turn off heat; cover and let stand for 1 hour.
  3. After the hour is up, Don't DRAIN! Add in the remaining ingredients, except the diced ham, to the pot. Heat to boiling. Reduce heat and simmer on low heat for about 3 hrs or possibly till peas are very soft and soup is of a creamy consistency.
  4. Remove bone and check for any stray bones or possibly gristle in the pot. You can trim the meat from the bone and add in to the soup (if it hasn't already fallen off the bone!) Add in diced ham. Continue to heat till the diced ham is heated through and the soup is of the consistency you desire; add in more water if too thick. Check seasonings and serve with toasted sourdough bread (yummy!)
  5. Note: We eat this soup as a main meal. It is very filling and wonderful on a cool night!
  6. Serves: 3 to 4
