- 1 small sweet onion – diced
- 1 green pepper – diced (I used a green, red and yellow miniature pepper this time)
- 1 can tomato paste (6 ounces)
- 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (more or less to taste)
- 2 cloves garlic – minced
- 1 1/2 cup water
- 4 tablespoons sugar
- 1 tablespoon molasses
- 2 teaspoons balsamic vinegar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons chili powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground pepper
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon dried mustard
- 1/2 teaspoon celery seed
- 2 tablespoons vodka (purely optional)
- 2 teaspoons Worstershire sauce
- 1/4 teaspoon liquid smoke
