- 1 teaspoon black mustard seeds
- 1 teaspoon fenugreek seeds or methi seeds
- curry leaves, a hand full
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 2 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1 tablespoon thick tamarind pulp
- salt, to taste
- water, needed for the gravy
