Ingredientes
- ¼ cup light mayonnaise
- ¼ cup light sour cream
- 1 teaspoon fresh or freeze dried dill
- ½ teaspoon salt-free lemon pepper seasoning
- Sandwiches:
- 3-4 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 medium, sweet onions chopped
- 1 red bell pepper, chopped
- ½ green bell pepper, chopped
- 2 teaspoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon chopped garlic
- 2 cups sliced mushrooms
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 hoagie rolls, split
- 8 thin slices provolone cheese
- 2 ripe (not mushy), avocados, sliced
- 1 tomato, sliced (optional)

%20to%20make%20my%20own%20sandwiches....not%20bad,%20but%20not%20great%20either.%20So,%20this%20weekend,%20wanting%20to%20fulfill%20a%20craving,%20I%20thought%20about%20those%20sandwiches%20and%20what%20it%20was%20about%20them%20that%20I%20liked%20so%20well.%20Guess%20what?%20It%20really%20wasn't%20the%20steak%20(although%20I%20am,%20most%20definitely,%20a%20carnivore)%20%20that%20made%20this%20sandwich%20so%20tasty%20for%20me.%20I%20discovered%20that%20it%20was%20the%20combination%20of%20the%20caramelized%20onions,%20green%20peppers,%20mushrooms,%20and%20melty%20cheese%20on%20top%20of%20a%20very%20good%20roll,%20that%20made%20the%20sandwich.%20Since%20I%20really%20wanted%20to%20make%20something%20that%20my%20meatless%20daughter%20would%20eat,%20it%20occurred%20to%20me%20that%20an%20avocado%20might%20just%20make%20a%20good%20substitute%20for%20the%20steak.%20Boy%20howdy...does%20it%20ever!%20This%20is%20what%20I%20came%20up%20with:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFaux%20Philly%20Cheese%20%22Steak%22%20Sandwiches%20with%20Lemon-Dill%20Mayo%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMayo:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIn%20a%20small%20bowl,%20combine%20the%20mayonnaise,%20sour%20cream,%20dill%20and%20lemon/pepper;%20set%20aside.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMy%20husband%20liked%20this%20mayo%20stuff%20so%20much%20it%20was%20gone%20before%20I%20had%20a%20chance%20to%20spread%20it%20on%20the%20sandwiches.%20He%20was%20sitting%20on%20the%20sofa%20dipping%20chips%20into%20it.....%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI'm%20not%20afraid%20to%20use%20convenience%20food.%20I%20found%20this%20freeze-%20dried%20dill%20in%20the%20produce%20section.%20It's%20perfect%20for%20me%20since%20it%20needs%20no%20refrigeration%20and%20it%20won't%20spoil%20by%20the%20time%20I%20decide%20to%20use%20it.%20It%20was%20a%20bonus%20that%20it%20tasted%20good,%20too!Place%20a%20large%20skillet%20over%20medium-high%20heat.%20Add%20the%20olive%20oil%20to%20the%20pan%20and%20allow%20it%20to%20heat%20for%20a%20minute%20or%20two.%20Reduce%20the%20heat%20to%20medium%20and%20add%20the%20onions,%20red%20bell%20peppers%20and%20green%20peppers.%20Sprinkle%20with%20sugar%20and%20cook%20for%20about%2010%20minutes,%20or%20until%20softened.%20Add%20the%20garlic,%20mushrooms%20and%20salt%20and%20pepper.%20Cook%20an%20additional%2015%20to%2020%20minutes,%20or%20until%20mixture%20is%20caramelized.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20didn't%20really%20measure%20the%20olive%20oil...just%20eyeballed%20it.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EYou%20can%20use%20just%20green%20bell%20peppers%20if%20you%20want.%20I%20just%20like%20the%20color%20of%20the%20red.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPush%20the%20onion/pepper%20mixture%20to%20one%20side%20of%20the%20pan%20and%20place%20a%20split%20hoagie%20roll%20on%20top%20of%20some%20of%20the%20hot%20oil,%20to%20brown%20the%20roll;%20remove%20from%20pan.%20Spread%20the%20toasted%20roll%20with%20about%20a%20tablespoon%20of%20mayo.%20Arrange%20about%20one%20half%20of%20an%20avocado%20on%20the%20bottom%20part%20of%20the%20roll;%20set%20aside.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20reason%20I%20used%20such%20a%20large%20skillet%20was%20so%20that%20I%20could%20push%20the%20onion%20mixture%20around%20and%20toast%20the%20buns%20in%20the%20olive%20oil.%20If%20there%20isn't%20enough%20oil,%20just%20brush%20a%20little%20on%20each%20roll%20before%20you%20toast%20them%20in%20the%20pan.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWorking%20with%20%C2%BC%20onion%20mixture%20at%20a%20time,%20cover%20it%20with%20two%20slices%20provolone%20cheese.%20Allow%20the%20cheese%20to%20melt%20slightly%20and%20then,%20using%20a%20spatula,%20carefully%20lift%20the%20portion%20of%20cheese/onion%20onto%20the%20avocado.%20Top%20with%20tomato,%20if%20desired,%20sprinkle%20with%20a%20little%20more%20pepper%20and%20serve.%20Repeat%20with%20remaining%20rolls.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIt%20has%20taken%20me%20many%20years,%20but%20I%20finally%20figured%20out%20the%20way%20to%20take%20the%20pit%20out%20of%20the%20avocado.%20Stick%20a%20knife%20in%20it%20and%20twist.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EA%20Philly%20Cheese%20%22Steak%22%20with%20no%20meat.%20How%20cool%20is%20that?%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
