That many people bring their dogs along in their camper van is a given, but a dog and a 90kg Vietnamese pot-bellied pig?! I must admit that when I first saw her, I thought I might have to give the Tapas Trails a miss for a while. A pig. In a camper van. Yeah, and pigs can fly.

.%20She%20actually%20eats%20very%20delicately,%20but%20she%20makes%20these%20sweet,%20happy,%20grunting%20noises.%20I%20totally%20understand,%20Naomi,%20and%20would%20do%20the%20same%20if%20it%20were%20possible.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHer%20owners%20are%20French%20and%20English,%20and%20her%20mommy,%20Anais,%20told%20me%20that%20she%20has%20been%20on%20a%20diet%20as%20she%20was%20even%20fatter...%20That%20pig%20and%20I%20have%20loads%20in%20common%20%E2%80%93%20I%20too%20have%20been%20on%20a%20diet,%20but%20you'd%20never%20notice%20it%20unless%20I%20told%20you.%20I%20think%20she's%20perfect%20as%20she%20is%20and%20a%20sheer%20joy%20to%20watch%20ever%20so%20carefully%20walking%20around%20the%20parked%20camper%20vans%20looking%20for%20fresh%20grass%20to%20graze.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWe%20parked%20our%20camper%20van%20on%20the%20Spanish%20/%20Gibraltar%20border%20and%20spent%20a%20couple%20of%20days%20there%20this%20year%20and%20last%20year.%20Last%20year%20we%20were%20able%20to%20take%20our%20bikes%20into%20Gib%20and%20cycle%20the%20whole%20way%20round,%20about%2020km.%20It's%20amazingly%20beautiful%20and%20well%20worth%20a%20visit.%20We'd%20been%20up%20the%20mountain%20when%20we%20sailed%20in%20some%2020%20years%20ago,%20so%20didn't%20go%20up%20to%20view%20the%20apes%20this%20time.%20Apparently%20there's%20a%20%E2%80%9Crule%E2%80%9D%20that%20as%20long%20as%20there%20are%20apes%20on%20the%20mountain,%20Gib%20belongs%20to%20England.%20(And%20anyway,%20who%20needs%20apes%20when%20you%20have%20Naomi%20to%20admire.)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20must%20admit%20that%20I%20had%20no%20idea%20how%20%E2%80%9Cstrained%20%E2%80%9C%20relations%20are%20between%20Spain%20and%20Gibraltar.%20Yes,%20I'd%20heard%20that%20Spain%20would%20like%20to%20have%20The%20Rock%20back%20(understatement),%20but%20the%20nasty%20little%20tricks%20that%20get%20used%20were%20unfamiliar%20to%20me.%20For%20instance,%20holding%20up%20the%20traffic%20trying%20to%20exit%20Gib%20for%20hours%20is%20a%20favorite.%20We%20had%20intended%20to%20drive%20in%20(diesel%20is%20much%20cheaper%20in%20Gib),%20but%20spending%206%20hours%20in%20a%20queue%20trying%20to%20leave%20increases%20my%20blood%20pressure%20to%20unhealthy%20levels,%20so%20we%20walked%20in%20to%20do%20any%20shopping%20we%20wanted%20to%20do.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20old%20town%20is%20beautiful%20and%20interesting%20as%20is%20the%20botanical%20garden.%20The%20views%20around%20The%20Rock%20are%20spectacular%20and%20next%20year%20we'll%20cycle%20round%20again.%20This%20year%20we%20had%20gale%20force%20winds%20so%20cycling%20was%20a%20tad%20difficult,%20but%20we%20were%20able%20to%20spend%20time%20with%20the%20lovely%20Dutch%20couple%20we%20met,%20Ron%20and%20Trees,%20who%20you'll%20hear%20more%20about%20later.%20They%20had%20been%20told%20that%20Gib%20wasn't%20worth%20a%20visit,%20but%20we%20convinced%20them%20it%20was%20and%20they%20are%20now%20also%20Gib%20converts.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELa%20Linea%20de%20la%20Concepcion%20has%20a%20lovely%20promenade%20and%20we%20walked%20along%20it%20and%20the%20beach%20for%20hours.%20There's%20a%20lovely%20bay%20on%20the%20other%20side%20and%20more%20opportunities%20to%20walk,%20cycle%20and%20shop.%20The%20spot%20where%20the%20camper%20vans%20are%20allowed%20to%20stay%20(most%20of%20the%20time)%20is%20on%20the%20old%20army%20base%20site%20and%20is%20directly%20next%20to%20the%20Gib%20landing%20strip%20%E2%80%93%20not%20a%20problem%20as%20there%20are%20only%20about%205%20flights%20a%20day%20(the%20Spanish%20don't%20allow%20any%20more%20planes%20to%20use%20their%20air%20space)%20and%20it%20is%20quite%20fun%20to%20see%20them%20land%20with%20The%20Rock%20in%20the%20background.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhether%20in%20a%20camper%20van%20or%20hotel,%20I%20highly%20recommend%20visiting%20The%20Rock.%20It's%20interesting%20and%20beautiful%20and%20if%20you're%20lucky%20enough%20to%20see%20Naomi%20Campbell,%20give%20her%20a%20scratch%20from%20me!%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
