%20with%20pomegranate,%20Valencia%20orange,%20Romaine%20and%20almond%20salad.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EGrilled%20Quail%20with%20Pomegranate,%20Valencia%20Orange,%20Romaine%20and%20Almond%20Salad%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOne%20of%20the%20great%20things%20about%20the%20rise%20in%20awareness%20(and%20subsequent%20popularity)%20of%20CrossFit%20is%20how%20it%20%20has%20made%20weightlifting%20pretty%20cool%20for%20a%20growing%20subset%20of%20women.%20Don%E2%80%99t%20get%20me%20wrong:%20it%E2%80%99s%20very%20clear%20that%20the%20prevailing%20advice%20that%20encourages%20eschewing%20heavy%20weights%20for%20lots%20of%20cardio%20is%20still%20the%20loudest%20voice%20in%20the%20room,%20but%20every%20so%20often%20I%E2%80%99ll%20learn%20that%20one%20of%20my%20colleagues%20or%20acquaintances%20lifts%20and%20it%E2%80%99s%20kind%20of%20fantastic.%20That%20said,%20I%20find%20some%20aspects%20of%20CrossFit%20to%20be%20rather%20problematic,%20and%20those%20issues%20I%20think%20can%20be%20summed%20up%20in%20two%20bullets:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20nonsense%20that%20airs%20during%20reruns%20of%20the%20CrossFit%20games*%20drives%20me%20up%20a%20wall,%20because%20of%20course%20the%20ONLY%20reason%20why%20women%20would%20be%20remotely%20interested%20in%20lifting%20weights%20or%20doing%20other%20tough%20exercises%20is%20to%20become%20a%20%E2%80%9Cten%E2%80%9D%20rather%20than%20a%20%E2%80%9Cseven.%E2%80%9D%20Never%20mind%20the%20actual%20benefits%20of%20exercise%E2%80%93it%E2%80%99s%20just%20so%20we%20look%20hot%20when%20we%20hit%20up%20the%20bars%20after%20the%20gym,%20amirite%20ladies?%20(Insert%20a%20GIF%20of%20Liz%20Lemon%20rolling%20her%20eyes.)%20UGH%20THIS%20MAKES%20ME%20SO%20ANGRY%20I%20END%20UP%20OVERUSING%20ITALICS%20AND%20CAPS%20LOCK.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETheir%20endorsement%20of%20and%20adherence%20to%20the%20Paleo%20diet,%20which%20I%20instantly%20give%20the%20side-eye%20to%20given%20that%20it%20doesn%E2%80%99t%20allow%20any%20grains%20or%20dairy.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThere%20are%20other%20things%20about%20it%20I%20find%20troubling,%20but%20these%20are%20the%20two%20that%20grind%20my%20gears%20the%20absolute%20most.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPomegranate,%20Valencia%20Orange,%20Romaine%20and%20Almond%20Salad%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20won%E2%80%99t%20belabor%20my%20first%20point%20too%20much%20more%20because%20this%20will%20either%20devolve%20into%20an%20incoherent%20smashing%20of%20keyboard%20keys,%20or%20I%E2%80%99ll%20be%20too%20tempted%20to%20share%20Michael%E2%80%99s%20assessment%20of%20the%20ad%20and%20it%E2%80%99s%20for%20the%20best%20if%20that%20particular%20conversation%20stays%20off%20the%20internet.%20As%20for%20my%20beef%20%20with%20Paleo,%20well,%20I%E2%80%99ve%20never%20liked%20the%20idea%20of%20diets%20that%20cut%20out%20entire%20food%20groups%20outside%20of%20doing%20so%20for%20medical%20reasons%20like%20an%20allergy.%20Is%20there%20a%20benefit%20to%20not%20making%20your%20entire%20diet%20based%20on%20grains%20and%20cheese?%20Probably,%20but%20I%E2%80%99d%20rather%20just%20incorporate%20a%20wider%20variety%20of%20foods%20into%20my%20diet%20rather%20than%20cut%20out%20certain%20ones%20altogether.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESome%20days%20require%20a%20nice%20plate%20of%20pasta%20at%20the%20end%20of%20them,%20you%20know?%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThat%20said,%20I%20know%20that%20Paleo%20works%20for%20a%20number%20of%20people,%20and%20hey,%20bully%20for%20you%20if%20it%20does.%20I%E2%80%99m%20just%20trying%20to%20enjoy%20having%20more%20vegetables%20in%20my%20diet.%20So%20in%20my%20quest%20to%20broaden%20my%20appetite%20for%20the%20cruciferous,%20I%E2%80%99ve%20turned%20to%20salads.%20Big,%20satisfying%20salads%20that%20complement%20a%20meat%20or%20fish%20and%20never%20make%20you%20wish%20there%20was%20something%20else%20on%20your%20plate.%20Thankfully,%20my%20latest%20latest%20culinary%20crush%20Jos%C3%A9%20Andr%C3%A9s%20has%20a%20couple%20of%20absolutely%20out-of-this-world%20salads%20in%20his%20book%20Tapas%20that%20take%20full%20advantage%20of%20wintertime%20citrus%20available%20now.%20The%20salad%20above,%20served%20with%20Tom%20Colicchio%E2%80%99s%20balsamic-grilled%20quail,%20was%20easily%20one%20of%20the%20fastest%20meals%20I%E2%80%99ve%20put%20together%20on%20a%20Tuesday%20night%20and%20reader,%20it%20was%20fantastic,%20and%20it%20could%20technically%20count%20as%20something%20paleo-friendly%20as%20long%20as%20olive%20oil%20is%20a%20permitted%20fat.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20seasoned%20quail%20sit%20all%20day%20in%20a%20marinade%20of%20balsamic%20vinegar,%20olive%20oil,%20thyme,%20rosemary,%20and%20garlic;%20just%20a%20few%20minutes%20on%20a%20hot%20grill%20is%20all%20that%E2%80%99s%20needed%20to%20finish%20them,%20so%20you%20have%20plenty%20of%20time%20to%20devote%20to%20salad%20construction.%20The%20two%20most%20time-consuming%20aspects%20of%20this%20recipe%20are%20seeding%20the%20pomegranate%20and%20supreming%20the%20oranges.%20Truthfully,%20I%20went%20for%20convenience%20and%20picked%20up%20a%20small%20container%20of%20arils%20rather%20than%20going%20through%20the%20trouble%20of%20seeding
