Receta Tasty Indian
One of the values of making bread is the sharing, not just of the food but of the idea. Knowledge is wealth - and over the years, I would like to think I have enriched a lot of minds with bread recipes that I have taught others to make. I have been to a lot of places, enough to compare and incorporate the various cultures in my recipes. The secret to good food has always been the same: quality of ingredients and care in preparation. The same goes for this Indian Fry Bread Recipe. Simple enough to make, but crafted well, it becomes superb.
Ingredientes
- Ingredients in making fry bread
- all purpose or semolina flour, 1 cup
- regular table salt, 1/4 teaspoon
- light brown sugar, 1 teaspoon
- baking powder, 1 teaspoon
- water, 1/2 cup
- a large and deep frying pan
- oil for deep frying, approximately 1 liter
- a dash of onion powder or half a white onion, minced then dried
- a clean wooden kitchen table
Direcciones
- - Sieve together the flour, salt, sugar and baking powder in a large bowl.
- - Mix in the water gradually until the dough is easy enough to handle. Remember, too much water and you end up with a batter.
- - Coat your palms lightly with some more of that flour and form the dough into a ball. Note: this is going to be sticky at first but it gets better once you get the right amount of forming on the dough.
- - Cut the dough up into smaller pieces, according to your preference, and form into smaller balls.
- - Toss half a handful of flour on the clean kitchen table and spread to flatten each ball with a rolling pin. Although this is going to expand when you fry it, do not flatten too thinly; about 2â3 millimeters would be sufficient.
- - Pour and heat the oil in your deep pan just enough to deep fry the dough.
- - Pinch off a small piece of dough and throw it into the oil to check if it will float and cook immediately.
- - Warning: do not wait for the oil to boil!
- - One by one, deep fry the all the flattened dough pieces to a rich, golden brown color.
- - Use a pair of tongs to remove from the oil and drain them sideways on a colander or flat on paper towels.
- - Serve with a cold bottle of beer, and give yourself a pat on the back.
