%20Rock%20Harper%20promptly%20installed%20himself%20at%20the%20upscale%20Ben's%20Chili%20Bowl%20affiliate%20Next%20Door%20after%20fulfilling%20the%20Las%20Vegas%20obligations%20that%20constituted%20his%20prize.%20Jos%C3%A9%20Andr%C3%A9s%20defeated%20Bobby%20Flay%20on%20an%20episode%20of%20%22Iron%20Chef%20America.%22%20And%20locals%20have%20even%20fared%20well%20on%20Bravo%20favorite%20%22Top%20Chef,%22%20with%20kooky%20Wheaton%20caterer%20Carla%20Hall%20a%20runner-up%20in%20the%20fifth%20season,%20and%20onetime%20New%20Yorker%20Spike%20Mendelsohn%20migrating%20south%20to%20open%20his%20Good%20Stuff%20Eatery%20following%20his%20season%20four%20appearance.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESo%20why%20is%20there%20no%20love%20for%20the%20District%20on%20the%20latest%20Bravo%20offering,%20%22Top%20Chef%20Masters%22?%20New%20Yorkers%20predictably%20predominate,%20although%20there's%20a%20large%20Californian%20contingent%20as%20well.%20Texas,%20New%20Orleans,%20Miami,%20Las%20Vegas%20and%20the%20Southwest%20all%20get%20some%20representation.%20All%20D.C.%20can%20claim%20is%20Art%20Smith,%20who%20despite%20running%20Art%20and%20Soul%20at%20the%20Liason%20Capitol%20Hill%20Hotel,%20is%20far%20better%20known%20for%20his%20Chicago%20affiliations:%20the%20Table%2052%20restaurant%20and%20a%20stint%20as%20Oprah's%20personal%20chef.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAssuming%20Smith's%20trademark%20hoecakes%20don't%20win%20it%20all,%20here%20are%20a%20few%20suggestions%20for%20D.C.%20area%20chefs%20who%20would%20have%20brought%20both%20skill%20and%20a%20bit%20of%20drama%20to%20the%20series.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E%C2%BB%20Carole%20Greenwood%20(pictured%20above)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EUnaffiliated%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EUnlike%20her%20peers%20on%20this%20list,%20Carole%20Greenwood%20is%20not%20too%20busy%20in%20the%20kitchen%20or%20plotting%20a%20new%20venture%20to%20take%20on%20a%20reality%20TV%20project.%20In%20fact,%20just%20a%20few%20days%20ago%20came%20a%20formal%20acknowledgment%20that%20Greenwood%20had%20Comet%20Ping%20Pong.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ENow%20sole%20owner%20James%20Alefantis%20told%20the%20Washington%20Post's%20Tom%20Sietsema%20that%20Greenwood%20plans%20on%20pursuing%20opportunities%20in%20%22food%20writing,%20music%20and%20art.%22%20There's%20no%20reason%20that%20vague%20list%20couldn't%20include%20television%20as%20well.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EGreenwood%20certainly%20has%20the%20culinary%20record%20to%20warrant%20inclusion%20on%20the%20%22Masters%22%20edition,%20having%20been%20executive%20chef%20at%20her%20own%20Greenwood%20restaurant%20before%20moving%20on%20to%20her%20recent%20projects.%20Perhaps%20more%20important,%20her%20abrupt%20departure%20signals%20that%20she%20has%20considerable%20entertainment%20potential%20as%20well.%20How%20would%20a%20chef%20who%20was%20known%20to%20get%20histrionic%20over%20minor%20menu%20substitutions%20respond%20to%20a%20%22make%20an%20amuse-bouche%20out%20of%20ingredients%20in%20this%20vending%20machine%22%20quickfire%20challenge?%20Sadly,%20we%20can%20only%20speculate.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E%C2%BB%20K.N.%20Vinod%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIndique,%20Indique%20Heights,%20Bombay%20Bistro%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhile%20chef%20and%20restaurateur%20K.N.%20Vinod%20doesn't%20bring%20the%20temperamental%20flair%20of%20a%20Carole%20Greenwood,%20he%20does%20have%20a%20lengthy%20career%20preparing%20both%20Indian%20classics%20and%20his%20own%20creative%20interpretations.%20His%20deconstructed%20samosa%20demonstrates%20the%20kind%20of%20playfulness%20%22Top%20Chef%22%20judges%20typically%20enjoy,%20and%20the%20scalloped%20veal%20with%20orange%20salsa%20on%20the%20Indique%20menu%20indicates%20a%20willingness%20to%20experiment.%20He%20also%20possesses%20what%20is%20perhaps%20the%20best%20mustache%20in%20the%20D.C.%20area.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E%C2%BB%20Michael%20Landrum%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ERay's%20the%20Steaks,%20Ray's%20the%20Classics,%20Ray's%20Hell-Burger%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIt%20is%20always%20interesting%20when%20%22Top%20Chef%22%20includes%20a%20contestant%20with%20a%20clear%20specialty,%20and%20Michael%20Landrum%20is%20well-equipped%20to%20fill%20that%20role.%20Although%20his%20seafood%20and%20side%20dishes%20have%20been%20well-received,%20Landrum%20is%20best%20known%20for%20one%20thing:%20beef.%20Since%20opening%20the%20original%20Ray's%20the%20Steaks%20in%202002%20(it%20has%20since%20relocated),%20Landrum%20has%20focused%20on%20providing%20diners%20with%20excellent%20steaks%20without%20the%20pretense.%20Even%20following%20Obama%20and%20Biden's%20recent%20lunch%20excursion%20to%20Ray's%20Hell-Burger,%20it%20seems%20certain%20that%20Landrum%20will%20continue%20to%20provide%20quality,%20unfussy%20cooking,%20and%20on%20%22Top%20Chef%20Masters%22%20might%20have%20some%20conflict%20with%20his%20more%20precious,%20molecular%20gastronomy-inclined%20peers.%20For%20the%20record,%20our%20money%20is%20on%20Landrum%20in%20a%20hypothetical%20throwdown%20with%20wd-50%20proprietor%20Wylie%20Dufresne%20(an%20actual%20contestant).%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E%C2%BB%20Dimitri%20Moshovitis%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECava%20Rockville,%20Cava%20Capitol%20Hill%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMoshovitis%20may%20be%20little-known%20outside%20of%20the%20D.C.%20area%20thus%20far,%20but%20he%20is%20doing%20everything%20in%20his%20power%20to%20change%20that.%20Not%20only%20has%20he%20expanded%20his%20Greek%20mezze%20restaurant%20Cava%20into%20a%20second%20location%20on%20Capitol%20Hill,%20he%20has%20also%20begun%20marketing%20a%20range%20of%20Cava's%20mezze%20spreads%20through%20local%20Whole%20Foods%20outlets.%20Greek%20cuisine%20has%20been%20mostly%20unrepresented%20on%20%22Top%20Chef,%22%20but%20more%20interesting%20would%20be%20seeing%20how%20well%20Moshovitis%20could%20adapt%20from%20the%20small-plate%20mentality.%20It%20seems%20as%20though%20his%20mezze%20focus%20could%20serve%20him%20well%20in%20quickfire%20challenges,%20but%20since%20his%20entree%20repertoire%20is%20completely%20unknown,%20he%20could%20end%20up%20performing%20well%20or%20awfully%20in%20the%20elimination%20rounds.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E%C2%BB%20Nora%20Poullion%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ERestaurant%20Nora%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ENora%20Poullion%20was%20at%20the%20forefront%20of%20the%20local,%20organic%20and%20sustainable%20foods%20movement%20in%20this%20area,%20and%20her%20restaurant%20received%20the%20first-ever%20organic%20certification.%20D.C.'s%20answer%20to%20Alice%20Waters%20could%20certainly%20go%20to%20town%20on%20a%20farmer's%20market%20challenge,%20and%20like%20Greenwood,%20it%20would%20be%20fun%20to%20see%20her%20attempt%20one%20of%20the%20more%20lowbrow%20quickfires,%20assuming%20the%20%22Masters%22%20will%20be%20compelled%20to%20work%20with%20canned%20goods,%20Swanson's%20broth,%20or%20vending%20machine%20snacks%20as%20on%20previous%20seasons.%20Poullion%20also%20ran%20Asia%20Nora%20for%20a%20decade,%20so%20she%20clearly%20feels%20comfortable%20working%20with%20foreign%20cuisines.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWritten%20by%20Express%20contributor%20Meg%20Zamula%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPhotos%20by%20The%20Washington%20Post,%20Stacy%20Zarin,%20Louis%20Raimondo%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
