.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThere%20are%20some%20brands%20that%20one%20might%20associate%20with%20as%20healthy%20and%20socially%20responsible,%20and%20Ben&Jerry%20is%20one%20of%20them%20(or%20used%20to%20be%20one%20until%20it%20became%20part%20of%20the%20food%20giant%20Unilever).%20On%20a%20recent%20visit%20to%20lock%20Island,%20we%20checked%20out%20their%20store%20and%20on%20looking%20at%20the%20ingredient%20list%20we%20found%20something%20was%20not%20right.%20On%20checking%20with%20the%20associate%20there,%20they%20were%20kind%20enough%20to%20provide%20a%20detailed%20ingredient%20list%20(It%20was%20good%20to%20see%20that%20they%20are%20transparent),%20sure%20enough%20it%20had%20GMOs%20and%20corn%20based%20ingredients%20and%20hardly%20anything%20organic...,%20surely%20a%20far%20cry%20from%20the%20old%20Ben&Jerry.%20So%20we%20thanked%20them%20and%20stepped%20out%20of%20the%20store.%20Btw,%20it%20is%20good%20to%20see%20B&J%20take%20a%20stand%20against%20GMOs%20by%20pledging%20to%20move%20to%20a%20GMO%20free%20menu%20in%202%20years.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWe%20limit%20buying%20ice%20cream%20to%20an%20occasional%20affair%20and%20try%20making%20my%20own%20organic%20versions%20of%20our%20favorite%20flavors%20at%20home.%20This%20way%20I%20know%20what%20is%20in%20my%20ice%20cream,%20how%20much%20sugar%20(or%20anything%20for%20that%20matter)%20goes%20into%20it,%20and%20at%20the%20same%20time%20enjoying%20our%20all%20time%20favorite%20frozen%20dessert,%20the%20ice%20cream%20:-).%20So%20here%20is%20my%20take%20on%20the%20Ben&Jerry%20classic%20'Cherry%20Garcia',%20with%20a%20little%20twist%20to%20it.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20one%20has%20just%205%20ingredients,%20that%20includes%20the%203%20ingredients%20used%20to%20make%20my%20homemade%20chocolate%20chips!%20You%20just%20need%20to%20remember%20to%20freeze%20a%20couple%20of%20bananas%20and%20also%20remember%20to%20pit%20the%20cherries%20and%20freeze%20them%20too.%20You%20could%20also%20choose%20to%20just%20pick%20up%20a%20bag%20or%20two%20of%20organic%20frozen%20cherries%20when%20they%20are%20on%20sale%20at%20the%20grocery%20store.%20If%20you%20have%20these%202%20tasks%20done%20ahead%20of%20time,%20then%20the%20ice%20cream%20just%20takes%20less%20than%2010%20minutes%20to%20put%20together.%20To%20top%20it%20all,%20it%20is%20raw,%20vegan,%20dairy%20free%20and%20all%20organic%20:)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFor%20chocolate%20chips:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ERaw%20cacao%20butter%20-%201/4%20cup%20(shaved%20from%20blocks%20and%20loosely%20packed)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ERaw%20cacao%20powder%20-%202%20T%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ERaw%20turbinado%20sugar%20-%201%20T%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMelt%20cacao%20butter%20over%20a%20pot%20of%20warm%20water.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDissolve%20the%20sugar%20in%20a%20tablespoon%20of%20water.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMix%20everything%20without%20lumps%20and%20pour%20into%20a%20small%20container%20lined%20with%20parchment%20paper.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EKeep%20in%20freezer%20for%20about%205-10%20minutes%20and%20there,%20you%20have%20your%20homemade%20chocolate%20block%20which%20you%20can%20chop%20up%20and%20add%20to%20your%20ice%20cream.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAdd%20frozen%20banana%20slices%20and%20frozen%20cherries%20into%20vitamix%20jar.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EProcess%20at%20high%20speed,%20continuously%20%20tamping%20down%20till%20everything%20nice%20and%20creamy.%20Everything%20should%20take%20less%20than%20a%20minute.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EScoop%20out%20and%20serve%20immediately%20topped%20with%20chocolate%20chips%20and%20fresh%20cherries.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20is%20a%20soft%20serve%20kind%20of%20ice%20cream%20and%20should%20be%20enjoyed%20immediately%20for%20best%20results.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20have%20not%20tried%20freezing%20this%20ice%20cream%20and%20serving%20it%20later,%20but%20definitely%20something%20that%20I%20would%20try%20for%20serving%20for%20guests.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
